The person who did the editing on the image you posted is on flickr. You could ask them what they did because it looks as though most of it was done in PS:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/maradinn/2615050191/

Dimitris Giannetos did the makeup on that shoot..you can see another one from that same shoot on his site..it does not have the edited glowy golden look to it like the image you posted which is why Im pretty sure it was done in PS:

+1

addendum: another theory would be a layer filled with black with opacity lowered and the highlights erased from teh black layer.

either way the highlights looked half assed, which sucks considering its a good image.

In the first image it appears the model is painted. That's why the skin has a sheen to it.

Indeed, tons of bronzer.

I think you'd have a tough time getting that look with those lights..unless you're REALLY clever with diffusion/flags/light modifying.  And have a great eye.

But work with what you have..and maybe you can find a look that's better or new or more interesting.  I'd go there instead.  Experiment.

+4, 5, 6 that CS4 with the improved for the dodge/ burn tool would help immensely.  I'm just saying.

This is the most accurate answer.

I would suggest anyone looking to recreate this first, gets a model with reasonably tan skin, applies some sort of bronzing foundation, and then in PS, spend some time looking at the selective color and hue/sat adjustment layers.

As for the lens -- something longer than 85mm on a cropped sensor would be more ideal for this sort of work. On a full frame sensor, 130-150mm.

Dang.

Why not just experiment? For all the bumping you could be shooting.

Get some bronzer, as mentioned several times. That's the biggest key. Then experiment. The lens is the absolutely least important part of the equation.

You'll get far more useful advice in the makeup forum.

Definitely use the 50mm f/1.8 over the kit lens.  You'll get better colors that way.

You'll also get better colors with more white light being used.

You might experiment with a warming filter as well.

heeeey there smile
MaRaDinn here ^_^
I just saw this thread about my photo...a friend told me about it...
So i m very happy i finally found it cause i will try to explain to you some things
and maybe they will help you smile

First thing is i don't have professional lights yet , as some said, no money to buy... tongue
For this photo i used a simple headlight...
u know the yellow ones that constructors use...

Also i had the pleasure to work with one of the best makeup artists in Greece
and yes he used a lot of bronze makeup...

the lens i used is a 50mm 1.8/f on a canon eos 400D.

Now about photoshop...
the truth is i never remember what i exactly do on my photos...hehe
cause i experiment every time...

As many mentioned , i did some burning and dodging
i used the selective color
and many colored layers above my image with different blending options
to get this color smile

hope i helped u just a bit ^_^

And in my opinion the best way to reach a result u like, yourself ,
is to have ur own photo opened in photoshop
and try things out , whatever ,
u don't have to know what the other photographer did...wink
Experiment till u get it right wink
and it's a way to discover photoshop too...
at least this is what i do...smile
