Wooden Nickel Ranch workshop/group shoot event Sunday May 23rd in Menifee, CA

Here are links to our previous events.
• Drew and Karl workshop/group shoot 4/25 Vista, CA
• Drew and Karl group shoot, Sunday March 28, Riverside, CA
• Drew and Karl TeaseUm shoot, Feb 27, Riverside, CA
• Drew and Karl group shoot, Jan 30, Riverside, CA
• Wooden Nickle Ranch, Sun Dec 6th - Menifee, CA
• Desert workshop/group shoot Oct-24 Victorville, CA
• Desert workshop/group shoot 9/27 Victorville, CA

For new photographers who want to attend our workshop
• We're here to share our tips to beginning photographers.
• Ever wonder how Drew and I light our models without the background being blown out on a sunny day? Speed lights not cutting it huh? sad We will give you hands on experience in using affordable and portable mono lights and equipment. Try Before You Buy. smile
• You'll be so impressed with your images after the event that you'll be ready to order the same lighting equipment we use.
• We'll show you different light modifiers and their uses. Octobox, Octodome, beauty dish and grids will be covered. You'll also get to see the new High Output Beauty Dish (HOBD) in action.
• Circular Polarizer will be discussed and how it will improve your images when shooting outdoors or at the beach. I recommend Hoya brand.
• Once you attend our workshop, you'll be able to build up your port with beautiful models quickly.
• Students can take the remainder of day to shoot models.

Preperations:
• To make use of the workshop, CyberSyncs or Pocket Wizards are recommended. You can rent the PW's from Calumet or Samy's if needed. If the Pocket Wizards are unavailable to rent, you may rent the CyberSyncs or Pocket Wizards from Drew and I. Limited availability.
• Students should have prior knowledge on how to adjust their camera to manual mode and adjust aperture, shutter speed and ISO.

Don't care about the workshop?
• For photographers who don't care about the workshop, they can shoot the available models for the group shoot portion. (Please note that the workshop will be using Channel 1 and 2 on the Pocket Wizards. On the CyberSyncs we'll reserve Channel 1 and 2 also, if needed)
• Shoot beautiful models all day long.
• Please be courteous, if you're going to set up your lighting equipment inside a building, to either share or move locations every 1/2 hour.

What is this location?
It is a huge ranch out in Menifee that has Western type buildings with saloon inside, corrals, wagons, hills, rocks, fake mine shaft, and trees. There will be electricity in certain buildings so bring extension cords.

Pictures of location
Go to this website to view images.

Hire models after the event for 1 on 1 shoots at 1/2 hour increments
We have the ranch all day/night. Message the models and see if you can hire the model you want after the event for 1 on 1 sessions.

When is this taking place and how can i reserve a spot?
Date:Sunday May 23rd.
Time: 10am to 5pm. The main event is from 10am to 2pm. From 2-5pm you are allowed to hire models for 1 on 1 sessions at 1/2 hour increments.

I don't want to post any models for this event as some photogs hire to shoot them before the event. LOL

This is how we'll do it - I will message you the attending models when I get your deposit. Besides, if you've been to our shoots, you know we only bring gorgeous models. If you've never been to any of our shoots, just click on the link of our past events and check out the models and images.

Due to overwhelming feedback, Dr Pepper will not be at this event. Dr Pepper is a unique blend of 23 flavors. It has a more refreshing taste compared to other colas. So due to the majority I'll bring the plain taste of Crap Coke and Diet Coke along with water. Haters LOL*

* I am not a paid sponsor or distributor for DPSG or any of it's affiliates. I just like Dr Pepper over Coke. *

I got news for you. My models don't flake. I had to cut down. I can't have 20 photogs and 15 models at a shoot. Wouldn't you like that? If only you buy Juan on Juans. You still owe that raza $20. You left before giving her tip. LOL

April does not do group shoots and rarely does workshops. After heavy negotiations, she is coming to ours since we only bring gorgeous models. Reserve her 1 on 1s as she will be sold out.

Used 17-55mm f/2.8 lenses go for around $1000, so theoretically you could have money for both. I've used the lens extensively for the past four months and find the range to be a bit limiting for my tastes.

I had the 17-55, big piece of crap. I could never get any sharp images from it. I sold it and got the 24-70 and i am  pretty happy with that lens.

I got my einsein yesterday and at the same time i got an email for my second pre-order, lol.

I just scanned through all my photos from this weekend and didn't shoot one under 24mm... even though I was using the 17-55...  wow. now I'm thinking the 24-70 may have been the way to go.

If you say so. The other lens seems to be lighter in weight so it must be cheap plastic lol That's why it costs less than a real quality lens.

Hey umm, didn't a 85mm f/1.2 lens just like fall off a Canon body and hit the ground recently at Chanel's M&G? That's Canon quality for you. ROFL!!!

If you're talking about the Canon version, the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS goes for $1100 new. You can probably find it used on the Canon forums for $900.

That said, the only reason I never bought it was because of the constant complaints of the build quality.

1. The IS motor supposedly has been known to wear out / break on a more frequent basis than in any other Canon IS lens.

2. The sealing on the 17-55 is poor, and supposedly results in quite a bit of dust getting inside the lens (often specks appear on the front element, inside surface). BTW: There is a guide where someone shows how to take the front element off for cleaning.

I rented the Canon 24-70 which I used at the Drew/Karl Carlsbad shoot last Sunday, and that's the lens I need to buy. But I'm still waiting on the rumored soon to be released Canon 24-70 f/2.8 IS model. I was curious to see how that model will be priced, and if it will affect pricing on the current 24-70.

I had the opportunity to get a 24-70 used locally for $1K, but didn't jump on it because I didn't want to pull money out of savings to get it. I should have though... oh well.

I sold a bunch of my lenses to consolidate focal ranges. I'm currently down to a 35mm f/1.4L and a 70-200 f/2.8L IS II, with the hopes of adding the 24-70 f/2.8 (IS or non-IS) soon.
