I have been corresponding via the internet with a photographer from Europe who has shot hundreds, if not thousands of nudes. He has been doing this for several years, so he has seen a lot of trends of how models, or even women in general keep their body.

I noticed that a fair % of his models in his shots have pubic hair. I told him I cannot remember the last time I shot a nude model who had pubic hair, even though I know some do.

He said he believed the trend to totally shave is mainly an American thing, but is catching on more and more in Europe.......along with other things. He said perhaps we should do a poll and see what % of women do what. So I did. Just as a general curiosity type thing. One of the drawbacks is that we don't know what "region" the person answering the poll question is from, but that is ok.

Men, you can answer for your woman if she doesn't get online and vote. That is ok.
You need to register to vote, which only takes about 20 seconds. Thanks for all who vote in the "Highly Scientific" poll.  :-)

There are models all over the world who totally shave.  There are also models here who don't shave or trim their pubic hair neatly.

I'm guessing it's very similar in the US and in Europe. I can't think of a single European nude model I know who doesn't shave, and I hear from photographers occasionally how hard it is to find an unshaven model.

I've done well over 100 nude shoots with about 100 models.  I don't keep count of such things, but I'd estimate that less than half of the models are fully shaved, and considerably less than half are fully "natural."  In between are a wide variety of options.

By the way, if you are surveying, it's a "poll."  "Pole" is rather different.

I work with models from untrimmed to completely shaved and every where in between.  I would say the majority are trimmed to some extent.  Not scientific just seems to vary.

Side note--I think you want to "take a poll" not "do a pole".

I know a fashion photographer from New York, who upon seeing my work, was amazed that the model shaved off their hair.  I had to tell him that was the norm rather than the exception.  I just shot a model who had said she still had hair but kept it trimmed which I said I liked better but when she showed up for the shoot all the hair was gone.

Most of the models that I have seen that still have hair and are from the US are also the models that don't cut any of their hair.  I grew up with women have a full bush, but not cutting other body hair is a little too hairy for my tastes.

I had a photographer doing a "Greek statue" sort of shoot, wanted nude models with a full bush, I assume so the girl parts wouldn't show smile.  In a week.  I do think, if you want a hairy model, a girl needs more notice smile And honey, I'll take your poll, but keep your "pole" to yourself! big_smile

But if we all do a pole dance for him nude, then it's a perfect way to get an idea.  That way no lying is allowed tongue

Shaving, yes. It's more attractive and looks cleaner.
So shaving or trim, will make you look better and more appealing, telling whomever see your pictures that you take care of yourself. If you don't shave or trim it means you don't care about yourself, like using the bathroom and not washing your hands.

I was just told to grow out some fluff before I shot with a particular photographer again.  Another one "highly recommended" this to me, too.  I think I may take them up on this advice, since I have laparoscopic scars on my front bum.

The "looks better" part is pure opinion.

The "don't care about yourself" part is pure nonsense.

I just returned from three months in France. Didn't check out shaving, but I did notice that tats and piercings are very, very rare. Not all American style is accepted over there, altho a lot is.

Heavenly, I don't think your mother or grandmother would agree. Nor most people over the age of 30.

I choose to "shave" (brazilian wax). It's less an aesthetic decision, but rather personal. I want accessibility!!! wink

I don't shave or usually trim my pubic area and I think it looks pretty good (18+). And I certainly do care about myself.

But I'm totally fine with people who do shave or trim or shape or whatever. It's a personal decision. smile

P.S. I answered the poll

OMG, thank you for that laugh.

*claps*

I don't shave. I care about myself. People keep wanting to shoot me. People keep wanting to fuck me.

How do you explain all that?

This thread is void of anything actionable. So go vote --- but that vote will be nothing more than a curious statistic.

In ancient Egypt women would use a form of sugaring to remove all hair below their eyes. This topic is not new.

I've seen just about every variation, from full bush to lasered hair removal and everything in between.  In about 25 years of shooting nudes I think shaving has become more common, but it's certainly not difficult to find exceptions and variations.

I can only think of one shot I've planned ahead that it mattered for. I asked that model whether she was unshaven and she said yes, so it was a non-issue.  When shooting two models together I have asked them to coordinate so they were either both shaven or both unshaven, but which they chose was totally up to them.

One prospective model looked at some of my photos and noticed that many of them were shaven.  She asked "Do I really have to shave myself?"  I told her "No, I'll do it for you if you want."  Fortunately she had a good sense of humor.

99% of the models I have worked with are shaved...
I have worked with only 1 model that had a full bush out of probably 50 models I have worked with.

I shave because my boyfriend appreciates it. I have never had a photographer ask me to grow my bush in, or seen a casting that was interesting enough for me to consider growing one, so I keep it like this. *shrug* we do things for personal reasons too, you know tongue

Actually, I think they do!

If I remember this right (About a 50/50 chance on this) the term Brazilian Wax came from a woman in New York who's store offered the sevice and wanted a term that she could put in her advertising. She chose Brazillian Wax because she felt it would sound very exotic to Americans.

Of course I saw this in an interview with the woman on TV so who the knows if it's true!

Open-minded much?

I'd guess that of the models I've shot it's close to 50/50 with/without hair.  Not that I really pay much attention to that.

umm sorry but soap and shampoo are for keeping clean whether one is shaved or not and some shaved individuals could be dirtier than a none shaved one..And actually when it comes to ART NUDES it is prefered the model does have hair as it covers the private areas and makes it less porn looking as it resembles a woman and not a prepubescent vagina.
Theres a couple unwritten rules to standard art nudes.

1 no erect nipples

2 pubic hair that looks natural even if its a bit trimmed cannot be to manicured or completely waxed

there are several more and rules are meant to be broken. But if your base for doing art nudes is in hopes of actually selling them to real fine art nude collectors who will pay a very hefty price for them even after your dead these rules generally do have bearing on who buys them and why

just my pennies worth
