Spookie wrote: hi, i think you skipped me i was after Kyrstiann Dynae! can i please have your critique as well? OK Καλημέρα Kalimera let's get to it. sorry for the delay. First impressions: 15 photos, some redundant, some artsy, some we don't know what it is all about. No full head to toe body shot. Your Skill level: amateur Your creativity: photographer directed Specific style: spooked with a sprinkle of beauty shame most your photos are recklessly cropped, unable to offer a point of reference, location or context clearly. same thing -> Your Work focus: dark themes, cute cliches.. Your MM Profile usefulness: plain useless, nothing there about you, it comes across as basically "anyone can be a model, so am I , skip me if you want, I don't care " attitude. Your challenges: posing falls short, even passive aggressive ones I observed, well probably doesn't matter much in your shoot genres but for anything else, photographers will have to brace themselves and direct the shoot. Paid assignments: minimal Your best shot: What I like: bad crop but the last 2 photos belongs to photographer's port Suggestions/ Bottom line/verdict: There are really few good shots of you on your port however the rest flatlines into an abyss of boring and bad retouch. I see no excitement, or passion, or camera presence especially in your glamor shots , the port feels impersonal and generic, which I will probably forget about it in 5 minutes past my visit. Your work might not fail as long as your vision matches the photographer's but that will come with limitations and you will be stuck forever in doing something over and over again. It is up to you to change this, by seriously taking a hard look to others work. Good luck and best wishes. Do you make my list?: no

Rays Fine Art wrote: I'd appreciateyour thoughts, Thanks! First impressions: I spent a lot of time on your port diced and sliced, your portfolio suggest a accumulation of varied work, probably shot over many years ago, suggests also pre digital era. Majority of your photos on Mayhem are too small to evaluate the capture quality, also some are highly compressed, some retouches look obviously fake, and I find some color casts very bothersome. The plus side is you are a great story teller, you have the eye for beauty with https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/23404490 nice captures https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/34571459 but nothing grabs me if I wear my art collector hat. Your Skill level: Obviously experienced Your creativity: visually appealing in general https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37174689 but often light I wanted to see is just not there, Specific style: some works appears as tacky. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/14872027 like in this oil burner room, kind of beauty and the beast but https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35003297 I don't get the actual message or a purpose for some shots. Your Work focus: some of the bondage art falls very short, the action in those photos and rope job appears as amateurish or as an after thought. You do better on Pinups, and figure art, especially if you are posing the model you are excellent.. Your MM Profile usefulness: exhaustive. What I like: (the light) Suggestions/ Bottom line/verdict: I find your work artistic but I don't see in your work a (masterful) technique to create visuals that would make your work truly remarkable. First impressions: some good rope work on fetish shoots, some unusual concepts noted https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37313112 https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36951477 Your Skill level: intermediate hobbyist Your creativity: recreating mag covers looks good but I don't recall tattooed models on vintage detective magazine but I may be wrong. Your Work focus: adult themes predominantly BDSM fetish, with dark tendencies. Your MM Profile usefulness: OK Your challenges: Your high key and light in general indoors lack a bit, outdoor shots are OK and retouching need some improvement Paid assignments: perhaps What I like: Suggestions/ Bottom line/verdict: I would suggest you focus more on bondage do your rope art and rig models, because your art and glamor is not as good, unless you improve your lighting tremendously to create the needed mood. Model posing is also sometime off, giving an unpleasent or unflattering feel. Do you make my list?: no

I get the impression background blur is enhanced in post and not entirely due to big aperture in this . Your retouch is not up to the snuff and her hair looks ballooned and doesn't look very natural due to the bad retouch compounded with artificial blur behind. If you want to have this effect naturally you need to shoot this model with a very long lens in high aperture a bit from far. Thanks for your strait forward and brutally honest critique. Just as a point of clarification, none of these images had artificial blurring added in post. They were all shot with the Nikon 105mm f/1.4 ED lens and the blur is untouched. Regards, Tod

Regards, Tod I believe you of course but to me, background blur appeared artificial or "helped" by adding some blur, nevertheless I remarked an unevenness on the model's hair, it looks unnatural, I am not sure if it is because of some wind or you used a warping tool or a smudging tool to smooth the contour of her hair against the uniform density black background. I also have hard time to see a comparable foreground blur rate that's why I am puzzled. in any case do not use f/1.4 for portraits consistently just because you have this aperture.on the lens, model nose will be sharp while eyes out of focus or worst like in this picture one of the eye is out of focus and the other is..

Thanks, I'll stop the lens down next time and be careful to not crop out the foreground in post...and see how that works. 👍 Happy Holidays! Tod

It's great seeing detailed, thoughtful critiques. Thanks for that! That said, I'll throw my hat in the ring. Edit: oops! It looks like you got me in 2013. Is there a time limit where it's no longer double dipping?
