I just started submitting some stuff to them. It's nice because I have an option to do something with all my random work that doesn't fit guidelines about clothing lines and what not for other places. I'm currently trying to get acquainted with their style a bit more to increase the chances and not waste anyone's time.

Their style is hard to pin down, but the short answer is it needs to invoke a emotion in their photo editor.  Not much help is it smile but she doesn't limit it much beyond that.  There have been a few FAQ posted on the site about it, including a recent one showing some of what she didn't like.

Yes, it's impossible to predict which photo they will accept.
I have been surprised by their selection of mine, since I believe they left out better photos than the ones chosen.

There seem to be a lot of photographer entries with empty galleries.  Maybe the magazine is not devoting the proper resources to it.

Anyone can open an account and get a gallery. The difficulty is in getting your photos approved and into the gallery. I imagine those photographers with empty galleries haven't had a photo approved yet.

They are actually INCREDIBLY fast at reviewing the photos. I have just sent a few in twice and it took 1 day or less. Jorge Kreimer explained it above.

Selection of images appears very random. Since the linkup with Art+Commerce they now seem to be concentrating on obtaining travel and other non-fashion images. They recently approved 3 of my holiday snaps and denied a load of fashion images. Oh well...

Yes they are getting a lot pickier on the fashion end. I did get something in there I submitted today so I guess that is good.

Clearly I need to start submitting more photos of flowers and chickens! wink

Kudos though for managing to figure out what they're looking for... and deliver it!

Just off to shoot some chickens that seems to be the way to go.

they have gotten way more pickier with  what they will accept since the merge with art+commerce...

Since images accepted on photovogue will also be accepted on art+commerce for the most part...

Anyways..heres mine

voila mine no idea if the link would work though.

But I want to say what they select is so random. Like as if the bullshit point and shoot form an Ixus I have in there should have been accepted. Yet others I KNOW should be weren't.

I don't submit anything now, or don't have anything I assume is for Art and Commerce.....

As far as the randomness, my thought is that there's no way in hell the Ed is actually looking at all the submissions. There's gotta just be way too many coming in. I'd bet an underling or two does some initial editing.

Ok, so I am trying to figure out, what is the point of Photo Vogue.
How is it any different than any number of photo blogs, besides wearing the Vogue name?

a) Real Vogue photo editors pick the images.
b) Prestige
c) The picked images are sold in a stock collection controlled by art+commerce (being Conde Naste their client) providing you a  chance to be published in one of their magazines or special editions.

So basically Conde Naste is building up a stock of images that they can use in their magazines for free?

And if lucky you get an actual tear, after you buy the magazine.

Has anybody checked to see if they can re-sell your images to a 3rd party without asking and without compensation (kind of like what FB tried to pull)?

Is it just me, or is the site incredibly slow?

What are they at, 30,000 photographers?

And yes I did sign up. Now to see if I will send anything up to them.
And considering I love Voque Italia and Paris, it would be neat if something got chosen.
