the lack of color and washed out affect hurts you for an avatar shot. If you can, color shots generally work better.

I do indeed like the B/W, but the lack of contrast will not make the shot stand out so readily on a page with brighter shots. IMO you have some great photos in your port that will much likely serve you better as an avatar.

The fence in front adds a fair amount of interference. If I was skimming, I am not sure it would catch my eye. However, if it did catch my eye, the fabulous content would make me say yes. Great work!
