They don't, but rebranding is pretty easy.

Agree..I really don't think it is made by Nikon...It ships out of South Korea...
Most likely they farmed it out to somebody...
Still,
it does look like a decent piece of kit for the $$.

Well darnit.

I've got a D3200. I wonder why this tripod will work for a D3100 but not the D3200. Seems weird it's only for certain Nikon cameras.

Looks like it could be these legs with a cheaper ball head, possibly a SILK.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/7 … ripod.html

It's too lightweight to support any DSLR with a telephoto lens on it. You MIGHT get away with a D3200 & 18-55 lens, but even a 70-300 would shake like a mofo. It's essentially a toy tripod, I'd only use it to hold point n shoot cameras or a speedlight.

You can either buy a nice tripod once, or buy a ton of them as you slowly outgrow them.

I love that it says "Genuine Nikon Logo" and feature a picture of the logo. I'm always leery of products that add fluff to the list of features like that. And sure, the logo is genuine. The tripod, however, is not.

Then again, I've spent far more than that on tripods that were complete crap. This one doesn't look too bad.

No, my first Sunpak tripod purchased forever ago at Ritz was a toy tripod lol. Nothing could be worse than that.

Oh, I dunno. My 2nd tripod is made by someone named Hykuba.

It's a full 60" tripod with 2way pan-tilt.

It weighs about 1.5 pounds.

If you look at it funny, it flexes. I would never put more than 3 pounds on it.

A 3-lb. capacity on the ballhead. It won't hold much more than a small DSLR.

It looks  identical (even the same ballhead) to a cheap thing I got here that cost me about £25.  Definitely not strong enough, especially with the legs out.

Only time I ever use it is for timelapse when I need the camera low down (ie, I when don't have to extend the legs at all).

It looks legit. If its counterfit they sure did a good job at it. I just got a lens pen from asia that looks just like the real thing. The box has chinese writings on it tho. Might be a product intended for that market.

It wasn't my first but I bought something cheap at a Ritz when I was caught unprepared on a trip.  It broke right away.

Specs say it supports 8.8 pounds...NOT 3 lbs!!!
(The entire unit WEIGHS around 3 lbs.)
Also...lets keep things in perspective here...this is a
$60 tripod...of course it's not gonna' hold a Sinar 4x5 steady...

Has anyone actually seen 1 of these???

Nikon went into great detail on the making of the tripod. I would add a coffee cup holder to it. Gives it a distinct look.

If you want to argue the merits of a $60 Korean knockoff tripod, then why did you post here in the first place.  Just buy one and enjoy it.  But putting it out here, we're going to point out all the LOL in what it is.

The fact of the matter is, it's crap.  But it's cheap Korean crap.  It's likely better than the $60 SLIK you can get at Best Buy.  But it's still crap.  And they don't do themselves any justice calling it a Genuine Nikon tripod.  There is no such thing.

So buy it.  Use it.  But let us poke fun at it.

Their website doesn't even have a category for tripods. Knowing Nikon, if they were in the tripod business, they wouldn't be selling $60 versions. If they can collect $2400 for a 70-200, they know they could milk a tripod purchase for more than $60.

Buying a tripod without checking it out in person (or a replica) is like buying a camera bag/pack/sling without trying it on--it's dumb.

Look, the test of a tripod isn't the price.  It's if it will do what you want it to do (provide a stable platform under certain conditions).  You may also want it to do other things (pan, quick release, fit in carryon luggage, be lightweight for a hike to a wilderness location, whatever).  But it starts by needing to be a stable platform.

How do you know it's a stable platform?  B/c it has a Nikon label slapped on it?  Maybe it will support a Point-and-Shoot.  Maybe.  But unless you can find something similar and test it, you don't know.  Which means you're buying a tripod in name but you aren't getting a tripod in function.

Camera companies often have promo packages that they offer with cameras a little or no cost to dealers. Camera case, tripod, lens tissue buy three cameras and get one free or $10 ea. They are profit enhancers for the dealer. Sound like this could have been surplus or offered in other markets.

Like other have said, you do not buy a tripod sight unseen as it is not the price but build quality and how sturdy it is. "Holds 8 lbs" Does that mean it fails at 9lbs or is somewhat sturdy with a 8lb load.

Nikon does actually sell tripods sometimes lightstands as part of kits (reflector kits mainly).  you see them in brick and mortar stores in Canada at least.
I checked and Nikon Imaging Korea does exist as a pure subsidiary of Nikon Japan.  So the listing could be legit.

if they say it supports 8.8lb and they are running a 99.5% rating on eBay it probably can handle that much.
