Wikipedia:
A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant.

The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. For this reason, in photography a portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. A portrait often shows a person looking directly at the painter or photographer, in order to most successfully engage the subject with the viewer.

RULES:

Portrait style Head Shot to Waistline photos are allowed.

1. 18+ Images are NOT allowed in this contest.  Please consider 18+ of the Day.

2. You may only enter an image that you were directly involved in creating as the photographer, model, makeup artist, stylist, Photoshop wizard, or other creative-team member. If the copyright owner requests that an entry be withdrawn from competition, the image and any votes it received will be disqualified.

3. Do not re-enter any image that has appeared in ' PORTRAIT of the Day Contest' during the past 15 days or the image will be disqualified.

4. An image that has previously won ' PORTRAIT of the Day Contest' cannot be entered or re-entered in this competition.

5. A given individual may enter only one image per day and may vote only once per day. Composite images are allowed, but 2 different images put next to one another in a collage is not.

6. If you enter, must VOTE. Activity is what make these contests work. (In event of a tie, one who voted will be declared winner).  Do NOT vote for yourself or an image you helped create. When voting please use the word VOTE.

7. DO NOT VOTE FOR YOUR OWN IMAGE. Individuals that participated in the creation of an entry may not vote for that image. These individuals include photographers, models, makeup artists, stylists, and Photoshop wizards. Such votes will be disqualified.  Early/Late votes DQ under Rule 9, will not be credited towards compliance with this rule and will lead to your disqualification!

8. NO VOTE STACKING!!! In all fairness to contestants and others, please don't impose upon others to vote for your entry. If the Fashion Photo of the Day staff senses abuse then we will investigate, potentially disqualifying suspect votes and even your entry. 

9. IMAGE SUBMISSION BEGINS FOLLOWING THE PREVIOUS CONTEST'S CLOSURE Midnight Eastern Time/9:pm Pacific/MM Time, approximately. VOTING OPENS AT 12:NOON PACIFIC/MM TIME AND CLOSES AT 12:00 AM Eastern/9:pm Pacific/MM Time or shortly thereafter at the discretion of the contest staff. Please make every effort to cast your vote by Midnight Eastern Time. All voting officially ends when the 'Voting Ended' banner is dropped, with no votes for a given day counted afterwards. Please don't post your entry after the voting starts and wait until the 'New Day' banner is dropped and please keep in mind the dropping of the banner may be delayed till the following day.  Do not enter any new images until the banner is dropped.

10. Ties between two images will result in two winners. In an event of a three-way or greater tie, the winner will be decided by a random/volunteer host.

11. Contest Hosts have the right to enter their own images and vote in the contest.

12. Disqualified Participants will be notified with suspected violation within that days contest. A DQ is for that contest only and does not constitute permanent banishment!

13. The current 'PORTRAIT of the Day Contest' rules are posted here. By entering an image in the competition you agree to participate by the rules as posted at the start of that day.  Rules may be modified, added, or dropped without notice.
