What it says on the tin... I know that there is a bit of variation with style and substance, but would love critique on any/all of the images. Sep 29 16 03:22 pm Link I quite like your portfolio. This shot in particular catches my attention. Overall it is very good. Good tones and depth including blurred background with enough DoF to keep the subject sharp throughout. Resonably flattering angle for the pose and face and no distracting shadows on the face. Not crazy about the branch/twig coming from the left side of the frame towards her head though. I wonder if you too one step to your left if the composition among the trees would be a little better. There are things to like about this one such as her hair, and facial expression, but for me the overall image is too busy with lines going every which way. Wooden structure, bricks and mortar, lines on her dress...pick one of these rather than all three. Overall the contrast seems a little low. Too many of the tones blend together to give an impression of "shades of grey" rather than "black and white". That may be your intention, but personally I prefer the latter. This is a great expression. Good soft light (which suits the mood) and decent range of tones...except the hair may be be a tad dark (losing texture) at least on my display. Great texture in the shirt. this is cute. The dress is a little dark (losing texture), but in this case I think that is a good tradeoff which the tones you have. I think some minor retouching under her eyes could improve it unless you're going for that "honest portrait" look. I like this one too. Good setting, pose, expression, lighting, toning and a beautiful face. The lighting and angle of her face is much better here than in the first one above. this one lacks any punch whatsoever. ho hum setting, ho hum pose, ho hum lighting, with busy high contrast wardrobe. Not working for me. Too much grey. Wonky angle and subdued toning with the bright blue hair is not working for me. Also not a fan of the pose - particularly for the missing right arm and the re-appearing right hand. Pleasant lighting on the face (and a pretty face at that), but not enough to save this one overall. This looks well done in terms of lighting etc., but I just can't get past her expression. She looks miserable and pissed off in equal proportions. Perhaps that's the intent? it certainly keeps the viewers attention on her face. Not a fan of the lighting, proximity to the wall, overall pose, camera angle. This doesn't seem to fit with the rest. Straight up, clean, and simple with direct eye contact at camera level. Dark darks, bright background and good even skin tones in the midlle. I like this one! wonderful how all of the black surrounds her face. I hope that's helpful.
