If you are NEW to the film industry is it alright to request a kit fee?

If so what would be a standard kit fee amount for an (unpaid/intern) gig?

Also, in general is a kit fee charged (per day or per week)?

kit fees usually applies to film and you can ask but it really depends on many factors from  how much experience to what is required.  if you are new with limited experience sometime asking for anything may make the person hiring think twice or hire someone else.  starting new is tough because you need experience but at same time nobody should be working for free.   as for amount it can go anywhere between $25-$100 or much higher depends what materials involved.  make sure this is communicated and agreed upon BEFORE you take the job because if you end up using more material required, you are likely to absorb the costs.
