So... I am getting daily "Friends Request" from Pornspambots... on Facebook.

They all have often fake names, I mean... after you get a few hundred of those... you kinda know before clicking on them...

Then you see a picture of a hot girl... some not so hot... at least for my taste not... evilgrin then there is a post that invites you to a "new video" of the lady in the pic supposedly "showing it all", or "having sex"... or the other type that wants me to believe that there are websites with really hot, young woman, who can't wait to get busy with me... big_smile big_smile big_smile

In most cases... there are no friends of hers yet... sometimes 5, rarely more than 10... so, I delete the request, report it as spam and it disappears.

Quite often, the profile is already removed by the time I am getting to it...

Now, what makes me wonder... those profiles are being shut down as spam, within a short amount of time for being spam... but they are coming, and coming... and coming... like the energizer bunny, who wants to me you the one who's cuming... and cuming... and cuming... evilgrin   borat

Aren't those people getting tired or being constantly shut down?

How does that work, from an economical POV?

Can they generate if those spam FR's being shut down so quickly... how many Millions of posts they have to make to find someone that follows the link if just a few people see this post, but shut it down so fast?

Btw., I don't think I started to get as many until I hit over 3,000 contacts on my FB profile...

Which makes me wonder if I should check some of those "friends" and see how many "friends" they have... or it may be a coincidence...

Any thoughts?

It's just like any spam:  low overhead.

It's virtually free to send spam, so if you get 1 response for every 1,000,000 spam contacts, they're still going to make money.

Your answer is highlighted.
Five to ten lonely, sexually frustrated, and obviously dumb guys got suckered into it.
If only one of them falls for whatever spam is being hawked the spammer makes money.
Multiply that by a few dozen, hundred, or possibly thousand and it becomes a substantial income.
Not bad for $0 investment other than time.

I don't think that the amount of contacts is what's attracting them.  I get about 5 friend requests from those type of scammers every week.  Sometimes several in a day, other times once every few days.  I don't have anywhere near 3000 'friends' on FB, and I'm very cautious as to who I do accept, so I don't think it's via any of them.

It's the Russians. They've made FB their tool of choice.

This.

I have very few 'Friends' on fb, all people I know, am working or have worked with and receive just as many of these fake profile/spambot/porn link type requests regularly.

I don't know how they work or what the common thread may be but I simply ignore them and leave them to fb to delete.

Thanks to both of you... that makes sense.

Also... some people are wondering why I have "so many" contacts on FB. I am selective in accepting friends requests or sending them out...

With a few exceptions, pretty much all of my contacts there are coming from the fashion and acting industry... and those include models, actors, photographers, makeup artists, designers etc.

I have a group on Facebook for casting calls in the NYC Tri-State area, which is by far the largest of its kind with over 23,000 members... so, making contacts within that community just happens organically... smile
