Another huge loss... the co-founder (with Howard Devoto), guitarist, vocalist, and chief songwriter of seminal punk band Buzzcocks has left us, age 63, to an apparent heart attack. The influence of the band cannot be overstated: they combined the abrasive energy of punk with more elaborate pop-based melodies and a more jangly (rather than purely buzzy) guitar sound, becoming the living connective tissue between the sturdy bones of the 60s garage-rock era and the twitchy muscle of punk. Their albums Another Music in a Different Kitchen, Love Bites, and A Different Kind of Tension, plus the Singles Going Steady compilation, are must-haves, each one loaded with fantastic super-catchy songs.

Plus there was the post-Buzzcocks electro-pop solo single "Homosapien", which was guaranteed to get them boppin' on the dance floor every single time back in the day.

RIP Pete. We'll miss you. You done good. Very, very good.
