So for those of us who are total equipment geeks, who has been trying and getting results with the more esoteric of the lighting equipment available for use?

Show some of the most fun lights you have used by uploading them here. This is not a critique, this is more the sharing of ideas between photographers.

Just playing around.  Two DIY double tube, 4' Kino Flo clones, 5500k bulbs purchased locally.

I'l take some shots, sure.  But I can tell you, they're not TOO complicated.  Pick up:

Two of the 4', double tube, $7.50 Home Depot shoplights
4 bulbs of your choosing
Two Avenger wall plates:

Avenger Wall Plate

Two bogen umbrella adapters (these are pricier than I wanted, but it's all I could get):

Bogen 2905

Pull of the cover of the shoplights, drill 4 holes for the plates, use nuts, bolts, washers and lock washers to secure it.  Attach the 2905 to the wall plate and a lightstand, and 'presto'! You're done.

I'm currently working on some 2' setups as well.

Again, I'll try to post pics as soon as I can.

In this case I used very similar setup but different bulbs - look at the eyes

EJH, you are close, and the mistakes you made are simple to cheapen up.
Skip the wall plate and bind the shop lights together with mending straps and screws.
Skip the umbrella adapters and instead attach a block of 2x4 to the middle of the shop lights, then screw in a large lagbolt and leave about 2 1/2" sticking out.
Now this lag bolt fits into a super clamp mounted to a c stand, and you saved $30 per light.

Test set-up similar to EJH's with my youngest daughter a couple of years ago. Don't remember the bulb's k rating. Daylight in background and shot at f4.

And i'd love to see the contraption that made the asian girl's picture. And I'd love to see her smile
