I just bought the octobox and a grid from alienbees....

So question, how exactly is the proper way to assemble the grid to the softbox? I mean, it's all velcro, I've got that. But do you still put the softbox "cover" on it over the grid, or leave it off?

I believe that you would add the grid to the outside (front) of the completely assembled softbox. If you put any diffusion in front of (covering) the grid, the grid will serve no purpose.

Like teh reply above me, the grid must be the last thing between the box & your subject.

Go Profoto.com or Photoflex.com and look at their assembled boxes w/grids.

I guess I was confused because it's all velcro, and I'm having a problem getting the grid over the assembled softbox.

Maybe it's just me.

No, they are confusing. A Rubics cube may be easier to figure out!

Make sure that you use the diffusion panel that came *with the grid*, not the softbox. The panel that comes with the grid has a thinner velcro strip which allows you to attach both the diffusion panel and the grid to the velcro strip on the softbox itself.

Kristen... I'd be interested in hearing your opinion on the grid.  i also have the large AB octobox, and have thought about adding the grid.
Thanks..
