I am looking to get a beauty dish, and just have never pulled the trigger on one.  Any ideas of which ones are better and more useful?

I know Alien Bees and WL have them as well as Hensel, and I am sure others.  Whats working well for you heavy hitters out there?

See the Beauty Dish section in the Lighting, Flash, Ring, & Battery Strobe Reference thread thread for links to many threads on the topic, including usage suggestions, and different brands. Just be aware that most beauty dishes are mount specific, and aren't easily interchanged between brands.

A good starting point would be Stephen Eastwood's consolidated answer thread on Beauty Dishes.

* So tell me some about Beauty Dishes and grids ?

I love the 27" Elinchrom white, beautiful light.

Yes, there's always more 'stuff' we want to get, but we put it to good use, right?

I am a big fan of both my hensel 22" white dish and my profoto 22" softlighter.

Both provide me with exactly that kind of light i expect from a bd.

Do you use the difuser on the Elinchrome BD?

As far as heavy hitters go, I believe Stephen Eastwood mostly uses the Speedotron blackline.

I have Bowens strobes so I use the Bowens BD personally... and love it smile

I like the 22" Demi from Mola.  Also on occassion I utilize the 18" dish from Dyna-Lite.

I use the Photogenic 24-inch white dish and for people with great skin its great.  However on young people with skin problems or 40-year plus women I prefer a 3ft Octodome w/grid and internal diffuser.

On your port do you remember which dish you used with each picture?

The only thing that sucks about the octabox is that the grid cost almost the same amount as the box. oooooooouuuuuuuuuucccccccccchhhhhhhhh!

Hmm let's see.  On the first row, all was shot with the demi except the one with the 2 girls.  That was the euro.  And on the bottom row, all those were using the 22" except the one with the zipper on the models lips.  That one was just with the zoom reflector gridded and using barndoors.

Mola, they have lots of adapter for flash heads.
