I was drawn in at first by the surprise joining of 1950s lighting and styling with a modern-looking surf board.
Then I notice the many parts that create the composition: gaze, expression, the precise turn of the body to see the right hand, hair, make-up. Her hair is fabulous for this shot.
Then there are things that are consonant in the picture which I realise are adding up to keep me interested still: for me these are the upward direction, the expansiveness created by that and the looking out; at the same time the weightiness and dependency of the figure and the board to achieve balance.
