The presence of a mask evokes the notion of concealed or altered identity, and the use of a necktie compounds that idea, as questions of gender may be implied. The model's hands are bound, and one is left to wonder whether the subject is captive of an active captor, captive of societal identity constructions, or, perhaps, a willing participant in the variable social construction of identity generally. Commentary on the content and concept could continue indefinitely, which speaks to strength in this composition. Contrast in the photograph is effective and complementary to the content. A well-conceived and judiciously crafted image.
