About Me

=========================================================

* FASHION * LIFESTYLES * TRAVEL * ART *

* I'm fortunate to be able to work with very beautiful, very talented, very bright models. I've shot hundreds of models over the years, and, even though've cut way back on the number of models that I'm testing with so that I can concentrate more on other projects, I'm always looking for new talent.

* I've worked with lots of experienced models including agency models, runway coverage, in the studio and on location.. They come on-time, are prepared to work, know what to do in front of a camera and intuitively find their light. I'm always interested in working with established models.

* But, at this point I'm particularly looking for models with editorial, commercial or artistic potential who are just getting started, are interested in learning more about the industry and want to work on putting together a strong selection of images.

* I've taught modeling and have done a lot of model coaching (including runway), so dedication and dependability are more important than experience.

* I can provide models that I work who are just getting started with a list of helpful hints about the Do's and Don'ts of getting started n modeling, that I developed for my "Realties, Practicalities and Legalities of Working in Front of a Camera" class.

* Some of the models that I've worked with, I've worked with over a period of months, even years, so I'm always interested in models that want to establish on-going working relationships.

COMMERCIAL WORK vs. ARTISTIC WORK

* Because I worked with models of all ages in my professional assignments, and I worked with some very conservative clients and publications, I've always kept my commercial and editorial work separate from my artistic and sensual work.

* On the sensual side, I shoot anything from edgy editorial to cute and sexy, to artistic nudes, but no porn or "X" rated material.

* I have separate Web sites and galleries for my commercial and editorial work that don't include sensual images, (I can provide links if you're interested). This MM page does include some sensual work, but in password protected albums. (I can provide passwords to any model or MUA who might be interested in working together.)

TRADE and PAID SHOOTS

* I don't market my services to models, so I won't try to sell you something or try to have you hire me for anything.

* I've cut way back on the number of models I work with, but I try to get as many model shoots in as I have time for.

* I'm generally pretty good at coming up with models that I need on a trade basis. So offers to collaborate are for trade shoots (I usually provide 20-30 optimized images per trade shoot.)

* Provided images may be used for any purposes that the model might want to use them for, with proper photo credit. But they may NOT be reoptimized or manipulated, other than cropping for size or position. (I don't want somebody else's vision imprinted onto my images.)

* There are times when I do paid shoots, such as when a last minute shoot comes up and I can't  find a model in time or I'm in an area where models who do trade shoots aren't available. (I generally don't provide images on paid shoots unless arrangements have been made before hand.)

LOCATION SCOUTING

* I've shot a lot of runway shows and have done quite a bit of studio work, but I prefer working with natural/available light, on location.

* I'm always looking for new and interesting locations to shoot at. I spend a lot of time and effort to scout new scenes and settings.

* I do a lot of beach shoots. I like shooting in the desert, on old RR tracks, in abandoned buildings and in gritty urban environments.

* I'm always interested in having models come along when I go location scouting. I'll frequently do quick mini shoots in the found locations, just to see how they work. They're also good for doing basic test shoots, and a quick way for a model to gain experience in a variety of settings. Some location scouting trips have turned into very productive shooting sessions.

* I'm also looking for models with access to interesting locations, ranging from private settings and back yards to exterior pools, spas and showers to bedrooms and bathrooms with interesting available light to unusual commercial locations, rooftops and stairwells..

WORKING TOGETHER

(IF WE'RE GOING TO BE WORKING TOGETHER, PLEASE READ THIS SECTION COMPLETELY. IT ANSWERS MANY OF THE QUESTIONS THAT COME UP ALL THE TIME. IF YOU AGREE TO A SHOOT, I'LL ASSUME YOU'VE READ IT.)

* A photo release is required for all shoots. A copy of a photo ID is required for sensual shoots. (I work with models of all ages for commercial, editorial and stock work, but all models for sensual shoots must be at least 18 years old.)
.
* Almost all shoots start with a meeting before hand. Sometimes a phone call will work, but a meeting is preferred. (I won't shoot a models that I haven't talked to one way or another before the shoot.)

* I handle all communications on MM until the day of the shoot when texting works best (Cell phone numbers are exchanged when a shoot is scheduled. If I can't get a cell number, I don't set up a shoot, since that generally means a model wants to keep the option open to cancel.)

* If you tend to reschedule shoots frequently, or if working together isn't a priority, it doesn't make sense to set up a shoot. (I never reschedule shoots with models that are no shows and I generally only reschedule cancelled shoots one time.)

* I don't book models that have another shoot scheduled the same day, and, while I'll work with multiple models during a shoot,  I don't book multiple shoots the same day.

* Bring a girl friend if you want, but NO BOYFRIENDS, SIGNIFICANT OTHERS or MALE 'BUDDIES' unless I've met them before hand, which means a pre-shoot meeting for sure. (Sorry, I've had too many shoots go south because of impatient boyfriends and buddies who kept nudging the model to hurry up by talking about what they're going to do after the shoot.)

* One friend is OK, but NO MULTIPLE OR GROUPS.OF FRIENDS, EVER (and NO PETS unless the shoot specifically calls for one.) (Groups of friends alway say they're going to be off doing their own thing, and half way through the shoot they're sitting around making comments about the model or they're trying to get her to hurry up so they can get going.)

* f there is no MUA involved, come ready with light make up (unless another type of make up is called for by the theme of the shoot). Bring a touch-up MU kit and a brush.

* My shoots are very much collaborative efforts, and, while the objective is to come up with striking images in dramatic locations, they generally tend to be fun and easy going.

* Feed back about my work is always appreciated.

BACKGROUND

* I spent most my career doing editorial work as a writer and photographer for national magazines, newspapers, specialty publications and trade news services. I've also worked with various corporate and in-flight magazines.

* I've written several books on photography and digital imaging, and have contributed to some of the leading national photo magazines.

* Besides teaching modeling, I've also taught photography.

* I have extensive experience. I've covered news and feature assignments, sports and recreational activities, architecture and engineering, travel and transportation, photography and digital imaging, technology, and lifestyles, both on a staff and independent basis.

* For the last five or six years of my career I shot fashion, including dozens and dozens of runway shows, some studio work, and lots and lots of location shoots.

* I've traveled and shot in more than 40 countries in North and Central America, Europe and Southeast Asia.
