Mayhem #2585496

About me:
Hello, my name is Sarah Catherine and I specialize in beauty and underwater photography.
I am self taught with about four years of experience under my belt, and I do all of my own edit and retouching work. (*Sorry retouchers, I am only on here to network with models, designers, stylists, and MUAH's; please note this before sending a FR as the inbox gets a little oversaturated with retouch requests. My retouching work will not get stronger if I outsource, and if my work load is so heavy to the point that I require one, then my pricing is off. If a project absolutely requires one, I will contact you*)

LOCATIONS: I am based outside of Richmond, Virginia currently and do the bulk of my shooting here. Other locations I am currently frequenting are NC and SC. The trade I accept is extremely minimal in Northern Va and DC as the travel/traffic time simply eats up way too much time for scheduling without any compensation. Paid work is the exception to my travel rules.

Types of shoots I do:
I accept some paid work, and I also shoot TFP, as it is an integral part of discovering new creative avenues and new talent, and it is so important in continual skill building. Paid work I am just as picky about; for me it is not about the money, but the connection with the client and what we are trying to achieve, as well as what message the shoot will portray to the world. For trade, I am very selective as well; however, it should be noted that I take into account a lot of different factors when deciding who I will be doing trade shoots with. (There have been times where I have shot with a model who has NEVER even had a photoshoot before, but I see raw talent, just as there are models who have countless shoots under their belt, but I have turned them down; again much of this has to do with connection, and what I see underneath the look. (After all, models, you are way more than a look!) That said, please don't hesitate to reach out, even if you don't have that much experience. As a photographer, and a woman, I am all about helping each other grow, and if your look is strong, you work hard, and are respectful of my time, you've got a lot of my trade criteria checked off already. That being said, for trade work, if upon review of your social media I find you habitually do not credit artists and teams you work with, or you do not credit artists in a way for viewers to immediately see who the team was without clicking on something, the answer is always going to be a big 'no', no matter how strong the look, and there are absolutely no exceptions to this rule. A lack of crediting does not foster professional relationships at all, and experience does not equal professionalism in my opinion. I do not do trade for shoots in which the images will be used commercially, or in an advertising campaign. All shoots require a signed release. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times, no exceptions, and also require a signed released by the parent or guardian. Parents: if you are unable to stay with your child for the duration of the shoot, I am unable to do the shoot. This puts your child's safety and mental wellness at risk, and I am a huge advocate for safe shooting environments, and drop-offs don't foster that environment, whether with me or any other photographer, no matter how established they 'seem'.

Diversity:
I cannot put into words how important diversity is to me. It is very easy for models, photographers, and artists to get boxed in to shooting one type of look, and one body type. I welcome women of all shapes, sizes, and skin tones!!! I am currently in the process of editing my portfolio here on MM to reflect the diversity of looks I have acquired in my personal portfolio that I so enjoy shooting.

Hosting and Spamming:
For me, personally, it is generally a turn off to be inboxed about inquiring to shoot, only to receive a long list of rates and requirements, when I did not inquire of them first to you. I respect travel models time and energy, and the planning process that it requires to make touring a successful possibility, but I generally ignore these, and wanted to make note that your time inboxing is most likely better spent messaging other photographers. I have exceptions to this rule, of course, but my personal criteria for shoots that I pay for is not often met in these situations, at least with my own personal experience here on MM, and it's all in the wording generally. ***Constant, repeated and incessant messaging to hire is a huge turn off and sometimes ends up in a block.*** I do offer executive hosting for touring models, but I am very choosey in who I host, and I require multiple verified references. When hosting, I do not open the studio for other photographers that I do not know or have not established trust with, as there are a few photographers in the area who are banned from the facilities for inappropriate behaviors.

References:
I am happy to provide references for models I have worked with, and I am happy to provide references on other colleagues (photographers, stylists, models, makeup artists and hair stylists) that I have had the pleasure to collaborate with to models prior to them booking shoots with these professionals. Safety and accountability is huge with me, and no shoot is ever worth risking personal safety, no matter how big of an opportunity it may seem. While there are great, trusted professionals, there are many who are unscrupulous, and it is a personal duty of mine to foster a safe and healthy industry for professionals of all types and genres.
