About Me

After more than a decade here, I'm not shooting all that much these days except when I feel unusually inspired.

Often I see beauty where others may not. I've never had any desire to photograph every model on MM. Quite the opposite, in fact. Instead I seek a few thoughtful and artistic individuals with whom to work.

When I do shoot with MM models, it's mostly portraiture and fine-art nudes. But if your idea of aesthetics is draping yourself across a Harley-Davidson with your legs spread, you'll probably need to find a different photographer.

The irregular, the unconventional & the unpredictable interest me. My most successful images are about ambivalence, emotion, mood and mystery. I'm thrilled when serendipity, humor and whimsy find a way into our shoots. When things go well, each shoot is a creative adventure between model and photographer. This synthesis is what I strive for, and if we're going to succeed in this together, you should too.

For the past eight years, I've been a Trustee of Camera Work, a member managed  cooperative which has continuously operated a Boston studio for the past 38 years. Camera Work is located in Charlestown on the Mystic River Seaport. It's safe, clean, spacious and easily accessible by car or MBTA. Well behaved escorts are always welcome at my shoots. Beware any photographer who argues otherwise.

This past September, I began my 12th season as the production photographer for the award-winning Zeitgeist Stage Company, an avant-garde, cutting-edge theater group located in the Boston Center for the Arts in the South End. To learn more click on

"Richard was such a joy to work with, not only is his work intriguing, thoughtful and true art, he is simply a lovely human being. Impressed with his professionalism, courteousness, even more so, it's often rare finding photographers who you can find that true chemistry with. Can't wait to work with Richard again!" Read less

Credit Notes

During the last twenty-five years my work has appeared in one form or another in the following media:

Boston Globe;  Boston Herald;  Boston Metro;  Boston Phoenix;  EdgeBoston; Broadway World; Quincy Patriot Ledger;  Joyce Kulhawik's Choices;  South End News;  Bay Windows;  Atlantic Flyer;  On-The-Water;;  WBZ-TV4;  and WCVB-TV5 among others.

Since joining ModelMayhem more than ten years ago, I've photographed more than two-hundred models from this site. You can find those credits (where applicable) under member's photos. Feel free to contact any of them for a reference.

Finally, I'm not here to collect make-believe friends or meaningless "thank you for the whatever..." tags. Anyone can do that, and they tell you nothing useful about anyone.

Real friends talk to each other. A friend is some one you know, can vouch for, and yes, actually care about. If you want to be listed, give me a reason to do so. Let me know who you are. Can't think of anything to say... well then, why would I want to list you?
