I do fashion with an emphasis on the character, craftsmanship, and artistry one finds in the best portraiture, and commercial portraiture with a fashion flair. Among the hallmarks of my style are:
1)
Dedication I prefer long shoots where we work hard but still have fun. I keep a separate wardrobe and dressing room stocked with clothing and accessories, welcome any and all escorts, work with assistants, and do my own extensive post-processing and archival, exhibition quality printing.
2)
Collaboration! I really like the magic that happens when a subject and photographer merge ideas! Whenever possible, that means meeting before and after shoots, and sharing photo and concept inspirations.
3)
Improvisation. In addition to planned lighting, I love roaming around the (wirelessly controlled) studio, violating all the rules. I like to push the technical limits with underwater, remote controlled night flash photography, and anything else that challenges technical limits and stylistic cliches.
4)
Communication! I strongly prefer doing gigs with people who reliably and consistently e-mail, message, call, meet, prepare, answer questions, show up, and do other old fashioned stuff like that!
For TF* shoots, I am having to limit the result to a maximum of eight fully processed (and, if desired, printed) images from a shoot.
I give discounts on commissioned portraits for musicians, artists, performers, and students.
Cornell Capa wrote:
Images at their passionate and truthful best are as powerful as words can ever be.
I am the head of MPA Photographics, a Greensboro, NC based firm, which runs the recently expanded suite Studio 112K in Greensboro. I also do technical and educational work for local photography concerns, private and semi-private Photoshop and Digital Photography lessons, and have taught photography at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Most of my previous work has been fine art street photography, and large format Nature photography, where I have organized and participated in a variety of exhibits, including the traveling exhibit of Eastman Kodak, one man shows in Chapel Hill, Boston, and in Greensboro at the Silver Gallery, the Center for Creative Leadership, Citicorp, the High Point Theater Gallery, and others.
