Introduction:
I am a photography student at Northwest Missouri State University. I happened across this site be accident a few months ago. Recently, however, my professor assigned the class to look for photographers and such that would make us think more about how we shoot, what we shoot, etc. So, I returned. I don’t have any pictures of people done with anything but a film camera. (General apology for wasting your time.) So, as soon as I can I’ll work to digitize the negatives and upload them; understanding full well that I cannot be made a member until such an activity is done. Regardless I thought that I would make my account in order to sort of generate a desire to force myself to learn how to do that early. Obviously, I am wholly a amateur and seek to be something more than just a “guy with a camera,” I think you guys like to put it.
My Reaction To Model Mayhem:
Mostly, I am interested in learning about photography for a more industry orientated viewpoint: as the only thing I’ve happened across up until this point is photography from a purely artistic point of view. It was kind of depressing browsing through a lot of the galleries and seeing overtly innuendo driven photos, but I guess that is part of the process of selling things: both to the outside world and amongst those in the business itself. My goal to join isn’t to seek out models (blasphemy!), though that may very well grow into my intentions in the future. It was cool to see so many people here that are close enough to the middle of nowhere to work with on this site, especially since I already knew one of them.
My Goals:
This year I am taking advanced creative and over the summer I should be enrolled in digital. In the fall I will be enrolled in stage make-up. One of the major reasons I joined this site was to learn how certain things are achieved. For example, making people look like they’re made of metal: ie living statues and such. I think I have it figured out, I have some Ben Nye (almost said mehron) metallic powder and so far I can make a pretty intense single tone metallic shimmer on an entire body. My goals in joining the stage make up class is would be to further that ability by generating shadows and highlights with the makeup itself and not just the lighting: just a minor thing that I am exploring.
