Hi, welcome to my page!!
I was born in southern Brazil in the state of Santa Catarina. It is a beautiful state that combines the cultural heritage and richness of Germany and Italy. Most of the residents of my state are descendants of German or Italian immigrants. My mother’s side is Italian, and my father’s side is German.
I had a very happy childhood and I grew up in a country where most people are motivated by sports, vibrant music, dance, warm people, beautiful culture and a quest for life.
Since very young age, I had a keen passion and talent for sports. My father was a soccer sports broadcaster and also soccer referee. He encouraged me to participate in many sport activities while I was growing up. I was always successful and very competitive and conquered many medals in several sporting championships.
While I was in school in Brazil, I played indoor volleyball and represented my school and my city in many volleyball tournaments. I was training 3 hours a day, 5 days a week for about 4 years. That training and playing in tournaments taught me many valuable lessons in life for which I am very fortunate. I learned how to interact with people, how to respect other’s views, how to be a true team player in many other things besides sports. I continued my passion for volleyball when I have the opportunity to participate in any small tournaments here in Los Angeles.
I trained and participated in many handball tournaments as well. I had the potential to be a part of the state team, but my father did not feel comfortable with me being playing an aggressive sport as a teenager.
I also played indoor soccer called “Futsal” tournaments.
I participated in Track & Field activities in my high school time, such as sprints (100m, 200m and 400m), middle distance (800m, 1500m), long distance and relays (4x100m). Jumping events such as Long jump and High jump. Throwing events including Javelin, Discus and Shot Put.
I spend most of my childhood as a member of a sports club in my city where we used to participate in many fun and competitive games and I also learned a little bit of swimming at that time; “It was the best time of my life!!!”
My Mom wasn’t really a sports fan and she wasn’t very supportive in my tournaments, but at the same time she encouraged me to attend to ballet classes which I didn’t really enjoy and modeling classes where I learned runaway, how to pose, good manners and many other things. While growing up in Brazil I participate in “City Beauty Pageants”. I won local pageants in 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2002.
When I was seventeen years old I was selected by a modeling agency in Sao Paulo, Brazil. That was the place where everyone wanted to be discovered. I moved there for a few months, and I started doing unhealthy diets trying to get as thin as the other models. However, it was impossible, since that wasn’t my built. I realized that I was having eating disorders because of the negative impact of starvation as a model. It turned out to be not what I would enjoy since, I couldn’t be myself, so I decided to go back home, joined the gym and began to take better care of my health. I started to work out and do sports activities again. That brought my happiness back to my life again.
I moved to United States in 2003 in order to try a better future. Since I had absolutely no family and no close friends here I had a difficult time getting into modeling and sports activities again; I overcame the challenges of being in a new country with a culture so different from mine and a land so far from my beloved ones. But little by little I was adjusted to the lifestyle here. I tried to learn English as fast as I could to be able to study more about my new home and blend in with my surroundings. I learned the English language a lot faster than I thought. That paved away the path for achieving my goals.
I began to get involved in sports and fitness activities again. I became more involved in exercise and nutrition. Within time my health and body started to show great improvements. My daily activities is based in strength training, endurance, circuit training, interval training, cycling classes and martial arts.
I plan to become a great personal trainer to help others to achieve a healthier life, and I plan to become a successful fitness/ sports model. In 2009 I got my first personal trainer certification and I started to model again.
I enjoy making new friends, love to work-out, to be outdoors. I love the camera and love to model, whether it is for fitness apparel or for high fashion.
I’m a very dedicated athlete and I am always ready to learn new sports; In fact this year I began training Brazilian jiu-jitsu. I’m a quick learner and I love new challenges.
Sincerely;
Leonela Waltrick
