Born and raised at the Jersey Shore – Mike Bell’s art blends an aura of nostalgia and humor, combined with vivid color and a combination of influences. Japanese cartoons, classic monsters, vintage toys, punk rock, carnivalesque images, MAD magazine and Big Daddy Roth are among the cultural forces that have shaped his art. The juxtaposition of counter culture imagery with modern day influences are the blueprint for Mike’s canvases. A true lowbrow painter Mike paints illusionistic as well as cartoony, sometimes with a hazy distinction. The out come is a world where the weird is wonderful and the inhuman is alive.
Mike has shown his work in galleries throughout the U.S. including:
DVA Gallery | Chicago Kustom Kulture Gallery, NY | Toyroom in Sacramento, CA | Lunar Boy Gallery in Astoria | Discovery Galleries, Bethesda, MA | The Shooting Gallery, San Fran | WindUp Gallery, Arizona Bluebottle Gallery-Seattle DigDug’s Gallery, Charlotte Blah Blah Gallery, Texas Metropolis, Lancaster PA Denovum |

I am interested in Model Mayhem, because of the chance to work with models who would be willing to pose for me, for a new series of paintings that I am currently working on.
This is a great site - I am excited to be a part of it.
