Your current job?
First and foremost, I am a father. A parent is the number one job in my life. Second, I am an artist, not just a photographer. I would say an artist because in my work, I go back to my paintings, writings, and childhood memories to pull into current pieces of work.
What's your dream job?
My current job.
You are at the cutting edge in several fields. Have you ever tried to define the exact role that you would like to play in today's society?
I have always fancied myself as a student of life. I do not care for the notion of one's having to become a professional. Thus, as a proactive, ardent student of life. I try not to define my role. Results achieved, rather than the definition of one's role, are what matter in the end.
Why did you choose the area of photography?
I was thrust into photography at the age of six by my stepfather. Unlike most of the things that my parents forced me to do, this one stuck and to this day I still love doing it.
You have undoubtedly reached veteran status after 20 years of experience in the business. What does the future of the photography world look like?
It is funny you should ask that, because I am working on a new project right now that is almost like reinventing an almost forgoten style of art. Really, the sky is the limit. There are things that inspire me to do new things every day, in the world around me, and so as long as this continues to happen, who knows what will come out of my complex mind next. But then again, that is just me.
If you could photograph for anyone dead or alive who would it be?
I would have to say that it would be any one of my three idols in photography and art; Diane Arbus, Andy Warhol and David LaChapelle.
What is your favorite hangout?
The Daily Dose
What would you rather be doing besides your present job?
I love my current job. However if I had to pick something else, it would have to be in music.
Is it absolutely necessary that one study photography in school?
Absolutely not.
And last, your favorite quote:
"Skill without imagination is craftsmanship and gives us many useful objects such as wickerwork picnic baskets. Imagination without skill gives us modern art."
TOM STOPPARD, "Artist Descending a Staircase"
--------------------------------------------------------------
First and foremost, I don't pay to do photo shoots. I know this may make it sound like my shit don't stink, but I am sorry. I don't pay for photo shoots. I view my time as money and money is the way I support my family. Photography is my life, and as a client of Ford Modeling Agency and with over a half dozen magazines that shoot for on a regular basis as well as my gallery showings, I can find paying photo shoots. My theory is you get what you paid for, and a model who has no history or a very little local modeling history should not be asking to be paid for a shoot. I don't care if they are signed to a small time agency or are working solo. Unless you have extensive work in the industry and have the references to back it up, don't asked to be paid for a photo shoot. And just because you have an amazing body, doesn't mean that you are a model, it means that someone might lust over you, but a model doesn't just mean body, it is attitude, a train of thought, a mind set. If you are not willing to try something that might enhance your modeling career, then get out of the modeling field now because you will not succeed. As a model, you will need to take risks, you will need to do shots that you might not be the most comfortable with, but you know what, that is the industry.
With that out of the way, lets get on to the good stuff.
Unlike most photographers, I have been involved in photography sense the age of six. My step father is a camera dealer and a photographer and I have followed in his footsteps. He has shown everything that I know and worked as his asst. for five years before branching out on my own. He himself has owned his business for 40+ years and is one of the best out there.
As a matter of fact, that I buy the most recent fashion and artistic photo magazines to stay up to date on current photography that is being published, and compare my printed work with them to see how I can always improve my own.
I have been a student of art for many years now, and I do not do the same "cookie cutter" shots, unless that is what is needed. I love to venture outside of the box and I come out with my photos.
Anyone who wants to do a photo shoot, Feel free to contact me. I have a cell phone that I carry around with me at all times, however, only people that I have shot with before have that number.
Will travel if expenses are paid unless otherwise talked about.
Please contact me if you are interested in shooting.
