PLEASE READ...
I have been involved with photography as a part-time profession for well over 30 years. Most of my past photo work has been photographing families, weddings, people and their pets, special events, Senior portraits, and lots of nature and environmental work as well as some sports photography. I retired from my full-time job as a biology teacher in 2008 and have decided to expand the photography business (especially photographing people) to include some unique aspects that are more than just standard portraits and shots of groups of people. One thing I desire to do is experiment with a variety of different lenses, filters, and types of lighting for unique outdoor posed portraits and candid outdoor photos of individuals in color, black & white, and other artistic forms. I have many ideas, but I must admit that I do not always know for sure just what will and will not work or what a person may or may not desire. There are so many time proven poses and I often rely on them for many of my photo shoots, but I want to become more creative in the future. I encourage input from those I work with and greatly value that input.
I am looking for models or those that think they might be interested in modeling, preferably in the Topeka area, that sometimes think outside the box. Together, I am sure we could create some new and desirable images as well as techniques that could benefit both the model and my photo business in the future.
I prefer outdoor photography, and own 10 acres of diverse land with many trees, wildflowers (depending on the time of year), native grasses, and a small creek. I also have a small studio with limited backgrounds, so photos can be taken even when the Kansas weather does not cooperate. I am willing to travel to other nearby locations, and have often used Lake Shawnee for outdoor shoots as well as some of the historic areas around Topeka, the Flint Hills, and other area parks and lakes.
Interested models may contact me with specific questions and/or to set up a photo shoot. I will work with both experienced and amateur models as schedules allow. I will also be happy to work with two or three models at a time if a model might feel more comfortable working with others rather than alone. Models under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. A photo ID may be required to verify age.
I do not charge a shooting fee for most shoots, and a shoot may last several hours, take place in more than one location, and involve the taking of several hundred digital images. Images will be edited, and the ones I consider the best (usually 40-60) will be posted at a password protected site in less than 30 days (usually less than two weeks) so the model can view them. Images are edited and retouched (if needed) using professional photo editing software. The model may purchase professional prints, digital files, or both as desired. I often request permission to post images at one or more of my websites. However, the model is not obligated to make a purchase, and I do not post images without the permission of the model.
A mileage fee may apply for shoots that are not at my Wakarusa location. Some or all of mileage fee may be used as credit toward print and/or digital file orders. The amount is dependent on the distance traveled and the total photo order placed. At times I am available to travel distances 100 miles or more and conduct shoots lasting two or more days as long as my expenses are paid.
Please take a few moments to check out the images I have posted at my MM site as well as follow provided links to learn more about me and the type of work I have been doing for the past several decades. Also, feel free to contact past models I have worked with if you are interested in knowing more about my style.
Questions and comments are always welcome. Feel free to email me using the MM site or my business email address:

I look forward to hearing from interested persons that would like to expand their portfolio with professional images, have that "special" portrait taken to be given as a gift, or would just like to experience a photo shoot with a professional photographer in a relaxed setting.
I also shoot family reunions, weddings, Senior pictures, and other special events. Contact me if you have specific questions.

NOTE I have a few dates free in November for photo shoots, but they are filling fast. I do not schedule nearly as many shoots in November due to weather conditions, and the fact that so many shoots must be postponed and rescheduled. Contact me if you would like to discuss setting up a shoot, and we can see if we can work around weather issues.
I will have a few days in early December, but my wife and I will be heading to St. George Island, Florida toward the end of December. I probably will not schedule a lot of shoots for 2010 until at least March or April due to weather and other photo related projects that involve much of my time.
I have enjoyed working with some wonderful models since I joined MM last summer, and I am sure the shoots I have scheduled before the end of the year will be just as productive and enjoyable, and I am looking forward to the warmer months of 2010!
