About me
Kayan James, born and raised in Jamaica, W.I.
I am a freelance model, a poet, spoken-word artist, dancer, community activist and the list goes on...
I am also a college student.
I've been doing spoken word for almost two years, I was a member of the URBAN WORD NYC 2008 Slam Team. We came second place in the nation in a national competition called "Brave New Voices".
You may have glimpsed me in an episode on HBO's new documentary..."Russel Simmons presents Brave New Voices".
My teammates and myself have graced/shared the stage with many amazing artists,writers, actors and actresses, amongst the likes of Wyclef Jean, Mos Def, Goapelle, Benjamin Brat, Sapphire, Amber Tamblyn, Sarah Vowell and more.
We have also performed at many prestigious venues such as the Kennedy Center in DC, the Ford Foundation, Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Bowery POetry Cafe...
Modeling is a new hobby and love for me. I decided to get into it because yes, I do have the look and the body, but most importantly I would love to explore myself as an artiste, and try to find out what my limitations are, if there are any. lol
Art is life. Life is beauty, in and out.
I am looking to network and work with amazing photographers, make-up artists, body painters...and whatever else Mayhem has to offer. I am looking forward to doing MANY COLLABORATIONS...and who knows...
maybe one day I can incorporate spoken word into modeling, or likewise...and see the mic work the stage in another light. (^_^)
