We care about light. We care about how it wraps around you and pulls out every detail of the shot while softening rough spots and showing us what we want to see.
Available light sources like the sun are merely another light that we use in conjunction with our flashes - we don't shoot with only available light because we're not 'taking' photographs we're actually Making them - and that requires control over as many aspects as possible - which sometimes ends up being none. :-)
Hopefully you'll have the good fortune to work with photographers who understand light and can take gloriously beautiful photographs instead of having to wash everything out in Photoshop just to give the photo a dramatic turn.
We use Photoshop - but we don't draw on our photos because they stand on their own.
You're awesome and if you have a portfolio full of photos with flat, boring lighting - you deserve better.
