Photographers: The conditions I see photographers complaining about on the forums are caused by not learning the professional standards of the business. PLEASE take the time to learn the ropes of the business of photography so you don't destroy the industry in which you hope to one day profit. These points are far more important than learning the next photoshop technique. Learn what your work is worth to your clients and why, how your work is licensed and what rights you have... and why working for "free exposure" is the express lane to the bottom... When to say no to a bad deal (a $100 commercial shoot is a bad deal, a work for hire contract is a bad deal, "free exposure" is a total rip off by the people who profited from your work). There are a number of professional resources and associations out there where this information is easily available. Good associations include American Photographic Artists, ASMP, Editorial Photographers. A number of good books exist written by successful professional photographers and these are the people you want to take your advice from, not people who are still trying to learn the ropes themselves. I recommend "Best Business Practices for Photographers" by John Harrington.
