November 19,2009 What is old is new! I just uploaded a new composite that is now my avitar image. The base shot is from a shoot I did with Jaclynn Joseph on the Napali coast of Kauai at sunset.
Welcome to my ever evolving vision. Most of what you see here is strait forward photography, much of which is shot on location. Every now and then a little digital magic is introduced to enhance, refine or better define an image.
My journey as a photographer started in the 60's, as I shot film with my sisters brownie. Later I played with the Polaroid camera and marveled at the "instant images". During the 70's I shot film with borrowed cameras as I traveled to Yosemite, Yellowstone, four corners and the Grand Canyon.
During this time my photo inspiration arrived monthly with each issue of LIFE and National Geographic both of which featured some of the best portrait, landscape and editorial photography of the day. I owe a great debt of gratitude to my father and mother who's love of contemporary culture and science was the main driving force behind the subscriptions.
I'm not sure if I was influenced by Paul Simon, but by the end of the 70's I had my own Nikon camera that I used to shoot Kodachrome images on a regular basis.
That's it for now. I'll be adding more later, but right now it's time to get some sleep.

September 23,2009: Another great day on Kauai! Worked with Kalei again and her friend Britney Toguchi http://www.modelmayhem.com/1332318
I appreciate that you love my work, or want to work with me, or just want to have more friends.
So.............................
With that in mind, I will only be paying models when I am working on a specific theme or idea that interests me personally. This will happen when I have time and a budget to do the work.
Models who wish to work with me should have a diversified portfolio with a variety of different looks, of one that demonstrates a unique/distinctive look that is the hallmark of their look. Images in their portfolio should be high quality. Sorry, images done with camera phones don't qualify as a modeling portfolio for a model seeking paid work.
Models I will consider doing paid shoots.
Models who have the look I want.
Models who have a diverse look.
Models who shoot fashion to nudes. (implied nude at minimum)
Why the last condition? I have found in over 15 years of shooting models that the ones who shoot nudes are more confident and comfortable in their own skin. They keep their focus on getting the shot/look right, have more confidence in their modeling abilities.
Re:"Just what exactly is Playboy style?" Have you ever come upon a portfolio of a lovely model who shoots fashion and nude work, and they say something in their profile statement like. "Will shoot Playboy style or up to Playboy style nudes" Anyone besides me left wondering just which Playboy style they are referring to? Playboy has been around since 1954! This does not mean that the same style of photography that used to appear in Playboy is what you will find there today, but could this be the "Playboy style" that the model is referring to? I'm not sure! Since about 1970 other "glamor" magazines (Penthouse,Hustler along with others) have adopted a style that is far more revealing (pink),and as a result it has caused Playboy to change its style although not the character of their photo expo says. Case in point: Playboy never showed a models pubic hair until the early seventies. Playboy used to be photo essays of the girl next door, and they didn't even consider models who had breast augmentation surgery. So if you are a model and you to shoot "Playboy Style nudes", do some research and find out which "Playboy style" you are referring to.:-)) Or just say "No open leg shots, full frontal or spread shots". With the exception of spread shots, full frontal and modified-(dynamic pose vs intent to display genitals) open leg poses are pretty much the "current" Playboy style. Ladies do yourself a favor and pick up a few copies of "current" Playboy and check the style. Then define your posing limits.
All work will be shot at a rate that is reasonable given the requirements.
Models who want images for their portfolio must be willing to negotiate a rate that compensates me for the post production I do on images they want. Unless otherwise specified all models will receive images that are web ready and sized to 800 pixels max. Larger sized finished images may be negotiated in the modeling terms, and will be written into the modeling contract as part of compensation.
Any image/s used on the models website must have my copyright on them. Use of images without a copyright on them will be deemed a violation of my copyright, and void terms of use. When notified of violation, the designated image must be removed from your portfolio and replaced with one that has my copyright on it.
I'm looking to push my photography even further, and welcome creative modes with vision. I want a creative partner not a rack to hang clothes on or pose like a stick figure.
What about TFP! I think it's important for models and photographers to be able to experiment with new looks, lighting, wardrobe and make up. When doing so it is not always focused on the specific production of an output image as it is to investigate the various ways of shooting an image that has a different look or style. This type of work can be very important to all artists growth. When there is an interest on my part and the part of any model to work in this manner to create new work for portfolio or just to investigate a new way or style of shooting, the arrangement is a trade for images only.
Who: Models who are local and would be interested and available for working together to develop lighting and style looks.
Visiting or traveling models who travel regularly to the SF Bay Area or Hawaii are welcome to inquire about trade shoots.
