About me
My name is Alan Anderson. I have been body painting since January of 2010. In the short time that I have done this, I have won several awards including 2011 RAW Make-Up Artist of the Year. This was a national contest that was very fun to participate in. Here are a few links to the videos from that event.

I enjoy creating exciting, challenging, and new designs. Please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions regarding my services, or my art. I love to meet new people, and discuss new ideas. I feel that any good body art piece is a collaboration of the artist, model, and photographer...Never just one person's efforts.
Thank you for checking out my profile, and I hope you enjoy viewing my work!
Here are a few FAQ that tend to come up often from many regarding body art. Hope it helps you when deciding to work with a body artist.
Models ~
Yes, the paint washes off. It dries to the touch, but remember it is water (and can be sweat) activated.
No, I do not use liquid latex.
Yes the paint will wash out of your clothes. However, I encourage you to bring loose fitting "older" clothes to wear home after an event or shoot.
I ask that my models understand that I paint on the skin, not over clothing. YOU ARE NEVER REQUIRED TO BE NUDE IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA. If you do not shoot nudes, but you would like to try body art, then I would like to make sure that this is understood by the photographer that we are using, and we can work the design around that thought. Props and accessories can be used to cover those sensitive areas just like you would in an implied nude shoot. If you feel that you may be uncomfortable being nude in front of myself or the photographer, this shoot may not be for you. It certainly is not for everyone.
Feel free to contact any of the models that I have worked with previously for references. They are listed under "credits" on my website. I encourage references being used prior to working with anyone for the first time.
Photographers ~
I bring a few kits to a job that are relatively small. I do not require much more space than a regular make-up artist.
Generally I do try to bring something like a mat for my model to stand on.
It is not a requirement, but it is handy to have running water near by. If that is unavailable, please let me know prior to the shoot, and I can be prepared another way.
Also, if the job requires use of an airbrush, I will need power. I usually always bring an extension cord for those cases.
This can be discussed prior to a specific shoot.
All ~
These creations take time. To give you a GENERAL idea, I tell most clients a typical detailed face painting can take in the neighborhood of 1 hour.
A full body painting anywhere from 3 to 6 hours. (No that is not a typo!)
And lingerie can generally take 45mins to 2 hours depending on how much we do.
I am happy to meet prior to the painting to discuss ideas, times, materials etc.
I actually encourage this for my models. It is nice to put a face with a name prior to painting.
As far as what I choose to charge...I have heard so many ridiculous things from "people with a paintbrush" say "You can pay $50 for a $500 body painting and get a $250 photo shoot out of it for free!" I will simply tell you, look at the work of the artist that you are considering using. Understand that every time the create something for a model it can cost me anywhere from $50 and up to complete a look. I have even put several HUNDREDS into some of my pieces. I do a lot of TFP work...but because I choose to use professional, hypo-allergenic, skin safe products, my materials do cost a lot of money. I have thousands in my make-up kits. I prefer to simply charge a "kit fee" to replenish what I use during our specific creation so that I can continue to do what I enjoy doing. I feel this is a fair offer for all parties involved.
If we come up with a design that uses hair-pieces, prosthetics, and several props, those looks to cost more money. I usually break each of those jobs down individually for consideration. As mentioned before...simply contact me with your idea, and let's discuss it on a individual basis. I am super easy to work with.
Please contact me if you are interested in creating something beautiful, scary, or just plain fun! ~Check out all my work at www.ColoradoSkinWorks.com
