E·mo·tion (plural e·mo·tions) (?), n.

1. A moving of the mind or soul; excitement of the feelings, whether pleasing or painful; disturbance or agitation of mind caused by a specific exciting cause and manifested by some sensible effect on the body.

2. heightened feeling: a strong feeling about somebody or something

Ok, everyone this is my chance to give credit to some special folks from the past. This spot will be reserved for images which truly have moved me in the past and still have me WoWed today. Hopefully you will be as moved by these images as I have. All of the images found here will be ABOUT EMOTIONS. Some will be models some will not, but all will be appreciated by me, for they have given their all which will be remembered by me for a lifetime.  Some of the pictures you have seen before, some not. There is no time frame for the images here. Quality of image does not matter. Beauty does not matter. They may last 1 day,1 hour, 1 minute or 1 week, what ever moves me. The images may or may not have a name but feel free to LEAVE A TAG. Good or bad it does not matters, keep it real, but just comment.
THIS SECTION IS NOT ABOUT MODELS, IT’S ABOUT EMOTIONS, so sit back and get ready for the ride.  I'm going to take you there...

Ms. October 2009 Star Harris

Big Props to Synthe the MUA

As I write this, I am still overflowing with emotion at being chosen as the Featured Model for October 2009.   This has been a wonderful experience, and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to work with such dedicated and passionate people as Kelvin and Synthe.

As a child, I always dreamed of one day being a supermodel.  I viewed every aisle as a catwalk, and every eye as a camera.  As a teenager, I began visiting agencies with hopes of being signed.  Unfortunately, although I was a size 4, my bust size prevented me from fitting into most samples.  I acquiesced, realizing my dream of becoming a supermodel would not be within my reach.

Years later, a friend convinced me to visit  a local boutique agency with her, and I went to support her in her quest to be an actress.   At my audition, the agent told me she would be happy to represent me as a plus model, and my dreams of modeling cascaded into my mind once again.  During the past year, I have worked fashion shows, appeared in a television commercial and music video, and participated in several photo shoots.  I now realize my dreams are within my reach, and I know I have the talent and passion needed to succeed in this industry.

Being chosen as Kelvin Bushan's first Plus Size Featured Model has been an overwhelming experience.  I am excited to be a small part of the struggle to break down barriers for full-figured models everywhere.  I hope to continue to bring awareness to the beautiful women who are full-figured, and support those who are bringing acceptance for plus sized models to an industry that has not yet fully recognized their beauty and talent.

Thanks once again to Kelvin, who is an awesome photographer, and Synthe, who is not only an amazing makeup artist, but also a terrific coach and assistant.  Working with the two of you made the experience so enjoyable and rewarding.

Sincerely,
Star Harris

Ms. September 2009 Ashley Carson
http://www.modelmayhem.com/781287

Much thanks to Linda Dupree on Makeup, hair and wardrobe

First of all, thank you so much for this opportunity as being the Featured Model for September 2009.  I am very appreciative for this representation, and thankful for the experience.

I began my modeling career as a young teenager in South Florida.  At the time, it did not take off like I had hoped, so I decided to continue to focus on school and getting into college, as that was the road my parents were hoping I'd choose.  I attended Florida State University, received a B.S. and M.S. in Visually Impaired Education, and then moved to Atlanta for my student teaching internship.  From studying, to my sorority in college, to then having my own students, I soon lost sight of my dream of becoming a professional model.

While living in Atlanta, I was approached quite often about modeling opportunities.  It wasn't until last summer that the modeling career that I had always dreamed of seemed that it might actually become a reality.  I was approached by a former model, who is now a good friend of mine, Michael Bryant. Besides the dozens of introductions he set up for me, he was also my mentor.  Since then, I've worked a considerable amount of fashion shows, events, photo shoots, and was signed with Dan Agency, and now working with Click Models.  I hope to continue my work as a model.  Although "supermodel" may be a stretch in my lifetime, I will not give up on my dream, especially now that I see that there are others, like Kelvin, Linda and my friend Michael that can make that dream within reach. I have truly enjoyed it, and working with people like Kelvin make it all worth while!

Sincerely
Ashley

Mr. August 2009 Mark Gelinas
The fact that I am spending some time penning this is very surreal.  My name is Mark Gelinas and I am originally from Chicago.  I transplanted into Atlanta 5-1/2 years ago and have appreciated my time here and the people I have met and the friends I have made.

Recently, avenues have been opened to me in your industry that have presented themselves unexpectedly and at a time later in life than I think most people enter into it.  Being 46, I am sure there can be an appreciation for the “strangeness and surprise” of it all and why I see it this way.

That said, whatever opportunities present themselves will be attended to with respect, diligence and humility to those that entrust me with their skills and artistic talents. I am already humbled by the exposure I have had with some wonderfully talented photographers, stylists and make up artists.

I became exposed to the details and nuances of this industry through a wonderful person that I have a great deal of love and affection for.  Jenni is a consummate professional and exceedingly accomplished at her craft.

I was flattered by the request of a wonderful Atlanta photographer, Hannibal Matthews, to assist him with a part of his portfolio he said he needed to develop.  That opened up the door to meet Kelvin.  I have had the opportunity to work with Kelvin a couple of times now and it has never been less than a fabulous experience.  Yeh, we have a blast working, but we also endeavor to get the ‘right shot’ as I begin to understand more and more what that means.

I do tend to feel self-conscious about being ‘attended to’ during a shoot as this is not my personality.  But, those that I have had the pleasure of working with have helped make me comfortable, respected by ‘rawness’ and helped me work through it and it has always resulted in a great experience - I think for everyone involved, and I appreciate those efforts.

The ‘surreal-ity’ of it all hit a peak a few months ago when I was offered and accepted a three year exclusive contract with FORD.  I have also accepted representation internationally.

The respect and appreciation I have for those I have worked with and others that I have met but not worked with is great.  And, I would like to thank all of you for your openness and welcoming of an old guy. I hope nothing but the best for all of you.  Deep regards and many thanks to Kelvin for this opportunity. You have become a good friend. Mark

Ms. July 2009 Lauren Helene Huber
Hello, welcome. My name is Lauren Helene Huber. I was raised a farmers daughter in a small town in rural Illinois. I come from a beautiful family, inside as well as out.  Therefore, it was nearly impossible for me to turn out “bad”, and I thank God for that everyday.

I’m not sure if I chose modeling or modeling chose me. Since a young age I always felt I was a little different than most.  I used to get the camcorder out, set it up in the living room and host my own TV shows (my family were usually the guests).  I would put hot pink boas on, sun shades, jellies, and any other gotti accessory I could find, over my night gown mind you.  I loved the spot light. I felt comfortable there. When I turned eight years old, I took up ballet. I had to BEG my Mother to do so, for it was quite expensive, not to mention my mother would have to drive me over 30 miles each way to class. She agreed.  After the first class I was in love!  When I danced, it took me wherever I wanted to go, and for that moment within my mind, I could escape. Become one with the music. I danced for the next six years. I stopped to play sports, for I was unaware they gave scholarships in ballet, plus, it seemed the ‘cooler’ thing to do.

When it was time to go to college, I didn’t know what I was going to major in.  The only thing I knew was that it had to involve the world of entertainment. I started out attending a local junior college where I took up radio/TV and later transferred to none other than Columbia College Chicago, an ART school.  There I majored in TV directing-production. I felt that though I still had the desire to be the talent, I wanted to educate myself in something else. Something that know-one would have predicted me to do. I did just that, graduating with a B.A. in TV directing-production, but I wasn’t fulfilled, for the clamors inside would not die. Be the talent that you are, is what I kept hearing.

I like the camera, and I think the camera likes me. For awhile, I put my dreams of being an entertainer on hold, all because I was scared of what others would think and or say. I am no longer scared. I am back at home in front of the camera and God willing, there is no stopping me. I know who I am, and I know what I want with this life. I’ve reached that point, I’m ready.

Ms. June 2009 Reicha Fraizer
Link to Reicha http://www.modelmayhem.com/33527
I am Reicha, a model from Queens, NY.  I was born and raised in
Queens and I can’t imagine living in any other part of New York.  Yes,
I am fibbing.  I would LOVE to live in Manhattan, but if I did, I
would be paying the same rent I pay now for half the space I have now.
Its probably so worth it too.  Maybe not, I love all my closet space!
Oh well, I am only 20 minutes from the “Big Apple” lol.  I have been
pursuing my passion for modeling for a few years now, more focused the last two.  I started out in the glamour/urban genre.  Lately, I have
been attempting to focus more on other genre’s including commercial,
fashion/editorial.  Notice, I said “attempting”.  I am a glamour girl
at heart and no matter how much I try to get away from it, it always
finds me ☺ During my spare time, I love to do what most women love to do…SHOP! I also love to go to the spa, what woman doesn’t like to be pampered? Of course, I love spending time with my family and friends as well. My mother is my inspiration behind some of my shoots.  She is the one who ignited my passion.  She used to model when I was a kid.  I remember going with her to photo shoots and watching her fashion shows thinking I want to do that too.  The only obstacle I had to tackle was my  severe shyness.  I guess when you want something so bad, you climb over and defeat any obstacle standing in your way.  Some family members still can’t believe what I do because they are aware of how shy I was as a teen.  I have a few of my mother’s pictures and certain looks/concepts I do imitate.  Actually, one of the images I shot with Kelvinbushan, my family all agree that I look exactly like my mother, and we didn’t imitate anything for those images…we free styled lol This industry can be very complicated at times.  It also can change the personality of an individual in a negative way.  Many models ask if I can give them advice on this industry.  Along with many other things, I tell them “Don’t loose yourself, stay true to yourself, always be yourself and love what you do!…hence the quote in the beginning…

Ms. May 2009 Sugouri Saprina Batra
Link to Sugouri http://www.modelmayhem.com/1113181

Namaste. I am Sugouri Saprina Batra. People often question my ethnic background when they see me, and shortly after they are surprised when they hear the answer. I guess they expect that I am some crazy hybrid mix of various different ethnicities, but I am only 100% Indian. Maybe the blonde hair tends to throw people off smile. Anyways, I will be 18 on May 31st, so I am fairly young and fairly new to this industry. However, from what I have seen so far my curiosity only keeps growing. The irony of it all is that as a young girl--even as a baby--I wasn't entirely the cutest thing ever. I was a tomboy at its best--short short straight black hair always eagerly waiting to boss around boys by beating them in almost every sport. My teenage years completely shifted that around: apparently I was "pretty" all of the sudden, and my forte on beating boys in sports completely disappeared. Nevertheless, my main focus was always school--as I was (and still am) aspiring to become a neuropsychologist. Modeling is something that I believe is something therapeutic---standing in front of the camera and letting your guard down takes me to a world completely void of reality. And that is something that is not easily achieved considering all the different stresses and problems in daily life. The therapeutic qualities can also be credited to the fact that in front of the camera I am never Sugouri; I am always a stranger to my own self, taking on many different alter egos with every differing pose. And sometimes a little bit of therapy always comes in handy smile I always invest more then just 100% of my capabilities to my work. I want to end this by thanking both Kelvin and Linda for making my first professional shoot turn out to be everything MORE then what I expected. I know a simple 'Thank You" would never suffice, but there is nothing else in writing that seems more appropriate.(Maybe I'll make up a word that expressed a hell of alot more gratitude and appreciation then "thank you" wink. Kelvin without your extraordinary eye for the camera and Linda without your passion for makeup as an ART form, the products from the shoot would have been nowhere close to what they are. There is absolutely no doubt of the obvious professionalism that both of them have in regards to their profession, but what made this shoot outstanding was that there was possibly the strongest sense of passion that my beautiful team of two had for their respective work. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is probably the biggest understatement of the century actually. THANK YOU!!
