I'm a 31 year old creative portrait photographer living in Carlisle, PA, originally from NYC. I love to work with alternative models, but I really just have a love of people. My passion for photography has been with me since I was a child. I have been active here on MM since 2010, but shooting since 2001. I've always been attracted to dreamy, ethereal stories and images that are timeless, mysterious and often have an air of tension about them. I try to tell stories that leave the viewer wondering what happened before or what might happen next. Photography is truly my life blood. It has taught me how to let go. Leaving my comfort zone is so invigorating. Collaborating with and meeting other artists has made me grow so much as an artist but also, and more importantly, as a person. My dream is to travel the world, photograph interesting subjects and teach workshops. I regularly work with Make-up and hair Artist "Just My Touch", Younique and Face Candy Creations cosmetic lines.

I am very happy to give some models a few prints when they spend half a day with me experimenting new things and trying to get better. Actually working, not wanting to take facebook style photography. (Although if that IS what you are looking for, see my rates below)
And furthermore, I would not charge models when I am the one experimenting (some of them are starting, it is a fair trade). This meaning my own ideas and concepts.
Granted, I don't do a lot of TF work anymore, but as you can see I am not against it. It's more of a lack of inspiration due to the "facebook models" I continue to see coming though here. Have an AMAZING idea? LOVE my port? Think I'm the Photographer for you? TELL ME YOUR IDEAS!
I know the argument comes up a LOT in the central PA area but I feel like this... The first letter in the "TFP" acronym stands for "TRADE". Some models and photographers never been properly educated on this matter so let me enlighten them a bit.
A photographer is willing to donate his/her time of photography and possible retouching in exchange for the model providing their services as being the subject matter. One person trades their services for another. Of course, they could just charge one another but then that would pretty much cancel each-other out which is why a trade for services, "TFP" or "Test" shoot, is decided upon.
The top photographers in the world all do TFP shoots from time to time. Why do you think that might be? THE DIFFERENCE IN PEOPLE WHO JUST LOVE WHAT THEY DO!
Do I pay models? Yes, I do. But that is based on experience and the type of photoshoot. This brings me to another important point.... My thoughts on Escorts on my sets;
Models have unhelpful escorts (well, generally. not always. I put escorts to work unless I have an assistant)
Photographers have assistants who at least in my case, carry all my gear that I can't carry, are trying to learn how to shoot and I'm trading them the little that I know for their help on shoots, hold reflectors or act as look outs.
I'm a female photographer. I've never brought an escort to a shoot unless you really want to pretend than an assistant is the same thing as an escort.
Non serious test shoots I don't mind escorts, but if I'm paying you... I don't want a distraction there. You're on the clock! If you want an escort, work with photographers who allow them.
Be sure to let people know upfront that you are bringing someone, as they have a right to decline shooting with you.
We all conduct our shoots based on our experiences.
My experience is that models who model for a living do not bring escorts.
My experience is that models who are inexperienced usually can not pose well with someone they know watching. So I spend a few hours wasting my time. I am not willing to do that IF I am paying.
And I rent a nice studio. After some things turned up missing that were near the escort, the owner and I agreed that no more escorts would be allowed during the shoot. They can come and say hi, but have to leave once I have to focus my attention on the model I am shooting.
So if you need an escort, shoot with photographers who don't mind them. I don't allow them so we just won't ever work together. I go on to the next model and you go on to the next photographer.
