About Me"If I could do anything in photography, I'd choose to shoot the old Estee Lauder ads; they're simple, beautiful, and timeless..." Me.
Back after some time away from the Mayhem.... This site is going to hell fast.
A bit about me...
I'm a full-time engineer and a part-time photographer. Part-time doesn't mean GWC though...lol. Unlike all the clowns on here who bought a Rebel Camera at Wal-Mart last year and now call themselves "very experienced photographers", I shoot with top of the line DSLR's, $2500+ lenses, Profoto lighting, ring flashes, beauty dishes, etc, etc, etc... I'm a "part-timer" because my engineering business pays WAY too much for me to go full-time "pro" in St. Louis, a.k.a. "The Fashion Capital of the Western Hemisphere" and I've just no interest in shooting Craigslist weddings and old ladies' poodles to keep the lights on. Despite my current lowly semi-pro status, my images still find their way into magazines and other various media, and my character references include people like Niki Taylor, the guys of Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Buzz Aldrin, and Mike Matheny.
** To the traveling models... No, I do not want to shoot with you. I don't pay a model unless I am getting compensated by a third party, sorry. Thanks for the nice cut and paste port compliment though... ;)
** To the Group Shoot guys... An opportunity to photograph a naked model who has the "deer in the headlights" look because she is surrounded by a pack of drooling, overweight losers? Ummm... NO THANK YOU. I'd rather stay home and read a book. Quit sending me your offers. You disgust me.
If you're still there..... :)
1- There's a fine line between art and porn and I've zero interest in crossing it (or even approaching it).... If that's your thing, I'm probably not the man for the job, lucky for you though... there are 1000's of "photographers" on this crazy site who are all for it. lol.
2- I've hired a lot of models over the years for various work and one thing I've learned from that is- nothing beats natural beauty. There are so many ports on MM that do a great job of showing off the retoucher's skills, the MUA's wild make-up, or some weird mask creation... YOU GET LOST behind all of that. Remember, it's YOUR port, not theirs. Let's show the world why you wanted to become a model in the first place, because you're beautiful all by yourself....
3- Along those same lines... I HATE PHOTOSHOP. It is totally overused in this business. I'll zap a zit or fix a bruise, but I can't turn Yoda into Adriana Lima. I believe that our lines and imperfections are what make us real and that plastic looking skin looks ridiculous....
4- There's a very big difference between being a model and being a stripper. I've no interest in paying you 50 bucks to take your clothes off for me in some cheap motel room. If your port is full of that type of "modeling" and you are content with that, please move along.
5- Last but not least, my schedule is crazy but I try to fit some time in for testing, or in MM language, "TF". Paid gigs are of course prioritized. I often use this as an opportunity to try new ideas, techniques, equipment, etc... That's what I get for my part in TF. Sometimes the results are fantastic, sometimes they suck... that's the chance you take. If you want me to drag out all the strobes, boxes, bells, and whistles, then I'll be happy to discuss my hourly rate with you.
Thanks for reading. Sorry for being too honest and maybe coming across a bit crabby. I'm just trying to weed out the people who the "Gate Keepers" should have ignored in the first place.... :)
CreditsI could list a bunch of names that nobody really cares about or I could just list the single most important thing that I have to my "credit"; I'm not another creep who likes to take pictures because that's his only chance to spend time with a girl that he doesn't have to inflate... Pathetic. I'm not here for "thrills"; I blow things up for a living. I have enough thrills in my life.
Seriously though, the MM models in my port are credited. Please feel free to contact any of them as a reference.
Oh yeah... National Geographic. It wasn't pics of a model, but rather it was the lunar surface and Mars, but hey... It's NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC and I'm counting it. lol :)
