Jordan Cowan was born in Birmingham, Alabama and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He started
dancing in high school as a dancer on the Hip-Hop Dance Team with his friends, which lead him
to dancing with local pre-professional dance companies in Jacksonville. Jordan’s mentor and
friend Kavin Grant suggested that he audition for this dance program. Eager to learn more about
dance, Jordan then went off to school at Alabama State University(ASU) where he started his
formal training at the age of 22 in Ballet, Modern (Horton), Jazz, African, Hip-Hop, &
Improvisation. He was introduced to Garth Fagan Dance through one of his professors Lindsay
Renea Benton ( former Garth Fagan dancer) who invited him to the Garth Fagan Dance
Summer Movement Institute in 2018. He received his BFA in dance from ASU Spring 2019.
Jordan then joined Garth Fagan Dance summer 2019. Jordan is thankful for his family and
friends and all the teachers and mentors that have supported him this far.
