Five Moons

I've been taking pictures since I was a teenager (I'm in my mid-40s now), and my subjects have been wide ranging: the Matterhorn in Switzerland, school children in Istanbul, fjords in Norway, salt flats in the Mojave desert, African villagers in Zambia, the Latin Quarter in Paris at night, tropical waterfalls in Hawaii, the ruins of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Yosemite Valley by starlight, jungle longhouses in Borneo---I could go on, but you get the idea.

And of course I also like to photograph people. I try a lot of different things. Some are regular portraits, some are abstract imagery, some are traditional figure studies, and some are more frank. Sometimes I like to tell a story using props and makeup---and some pictures admittedly are done for shock value. So I guess I can’t really say that I have a particular style—or maybe I have many styles. To be honest often times it depends on where the model themselves would like to go with a shoot, what kind of visual story *they’re* interested in telling.

When it comes to working with people, the truth is that photography also serves as a social outlet for me. I love the creative interaction that goes on between the model and myself when a photo shoot is going well. On some levels this activity is as much about the act of taking the photographs as it is about the photographs themselves. At its best, the process is a real creative, intimate collaboration between the model and me, which I enjoy immensely.

So my goals for joining ModelMayhem are to hopefully meet some interesting people who enjoy photography as much as I do and who might be willing to work with me in making some interesting images. I don’t claim to be a professional photographer who makes his living with his camera. I’m just a very serious amateur who is always trying to improve his craft while taking a few worthwhile and memorable images along the way.
