About me
THE ART BY ALAO MANIFESTO:

1) WHAT I DO (DIFFERENTLY)

As much as I love pretty pictures, I would hate to spend as much time as I do drawing, just to produce a pretty picture that cameras could do in seconds - and still have plenty of time to roll around in laughter at me sad I appreciate any high level of skill that's involved in art, but it gets a bit tiring after a while. That's why, in my art, everything's highly scripted beforehand. I like to hide lots of tricks, visual puzzles, and secret messages in my work, for example: In my display pic', if you look closely at the 'Cerca Trova' necklace (Italian for 'Seek and you shall find') you'll see that the chain of the necklace is actually a very fine line of text, this was the first clue in a puzzle that ran through a series of works in my last exhibition. Also, you should find 'hidden' my initials AW in the highlights of the right side of her hair, etc, etc.

2) PERSONALITY = CREATIVITY

I FAR prefer drawing people with lots of personality, as I really love the people I meet, and these are the people I want to represent and record in my work. Up 'til now I've only drawn my friends as these are the people I know best, and so it's easier to capture their character within a theme of a portrait, or even just a few little 'hidden' references if they should rather decline the limelight. But either way, if you consider the overall look of a portrait, and then the secret layer of hidden puzzles and meanings as 2 dimensions, being able to record a person's personality is an extra 3rd dimension which truely brings a portrait to life - THE MORE FUN, THE BETTER.

3) GLAMOUR Vs. ALTERNATIVE

I appreciate the glamour genre as it's all about the precious aesthetics which my artwork really needs to get the wow factor, and I LOVE a slight alternative quirk to make beauty non-cliché for the mainstream again. BUT. Please do not confuse me with the horrendous 't*ts and teeth glamour' attitude of institutions such as The Sun's Page 3, and don't think that by 'alternative' you shall be enacting the peculiar desires of any fetishist, anywhere, ever xD My work is the kind of thing you should be proud to post on Facebook and watch the 'Likes' roll in smile

4) SEXY NOT SLUTTY

Building from the glamour thing. I really do appreciate that girls want to feel and appear sexy (80% of my website audience traffic is female), but there is a line. I don't do nudity, the figure sketch in my portfolio is as nude as you'll ever find any of my drawings, but you'll still be denied important details such as nipples etc - That's just what I do. I think you can genuinely be more sexy by keeping your clothes on, or atleast denying a little (or just enough). My work isn't titilation for men, it's predominantly ideas by girls, for girls. I want my models to INSPIRE other girls to feel confident and happy about themselves, and have a lot of fun doing it - Not inspire a bunch of men to go reach for the tissues xD

Basically, the 2 buzz words that should be involved with working with me is 'FUN', and 'PROUD'. I'll be giving up art soon to continue working for the football club I created, to help inspire and promote women into playing the game and find an equal footing with men. But before then, I want to leave my mark artistically and have every ambition to push my own talent to the fullest - However, I'll need your help..
