About Me

Bio

I am a recent Graduate of the BA (Hons) Fashion Design Course at the University of Wales, Newport. Born and raised in Wales, I am constantly inspired by the beauty, mystery and heritage of my homeland. I have been interested in fashion from a young age, and I am particularly passionate about Menswear. I have taken advantage of opportunities to work for designer J W Anderson and Graduate Fashion Week, and my work has been featured on S4C several times. In 2009 I was a finalist in the Design Wales Ffres Awards competition, sponsored by New Look and I won a competition to design and make a dress for the Welsh celebrity, Sian Lloyd, to wear to the Motorsports Awards Ball in Monaco. In 2010 I took 3rd place in a fashion show held in the Wales Millennium Centre for the Ryder Cup.

Final Collection

My final collection drew inspiration from the Welsh fable of Gelert, a story that I have loved since I was a child. The story tells of how Prince Llewellyn kills his faithful hound Gelert, believing him to have killed his son and heir, only to find out that his dog had protected the baby from the attack of a vicious wolf. I was inspired by the idea of the fight between Gelert and the wolf, and wanted to create clothing that would prepare the wearer for battle. Quilted leather and knitwear featured heavily and I wanted to incorporate many traditional welsh practices in my collection to keep it authentic to the story. I was sponsored by welsh-tartan.com, and used the Llewellyn family tartan in my designs. I also designed accessories based on welsh lovespoons, that represented protection and the presence of a child, that I had carved by a lovespoon carver that used the same methods that were used hundreds of years ago.
