About Me

Retired, living in Jackson Heights, NY with my wife and cat.

Doing primarily non-commercial work (volunteer, self-assignments, one-on-one instruction)

First sale:  1972 to Kodak for a book on creative in-camera photography
First one-man show:  1982, Greenwich Village, NY
Most recent one-man show:  "As Far As I Can See"  2012, Ossining, NY

While most of my work involves nature photography and experimental techniques, I'm a generalist and a purist.

Defining "Generalist", I shoot what interests me at the time (I specialize in almost everything).

My definition of "Purist" comes from 30 years of working with color transparencies (aka 'slides') where the image had to be correct in all details before you pushed the button.  Even though I've switched to digital, my feelings haven't changed:  I use Photoshop to establish the white point, crop and define sharpness and, for most of my work, that's it.

Nothing gets "fixed" in Photoshop.

Anything else falls into the realm of digital artistry, which I consider to be an excellent but different art form.

The work on my site freely intermingles digital and scanned film and will provide you with the breadth of my work -- although most of the earliest hasn't been scanned yet.

Since the advent of the iPhone, there's little money to be made selling prints; however there's still a great deal to learn regarding technique.

My greatest challenge is finding a set of people I can work with over time, on a cooperative basis (no-one gets paid unless we all do):  I need a hair/makeup person, model, and assistant to form a team for mutual benefit.

The model will be able to experiment with different styles, movements, locations, props, other models and whatever else will help market her/himself in the marketplace.  You will get a professional, gallery-quality print of your choice of the shots and jpgs for use as you will.

Makeup and hair specialist should have the most fun to try new things and improve technique; possibly finding an area for specialization.  You will also get a professional, gallery-quality print of your choice and a copy of all the jpgs for the shots you participated in.

My assistant will be given a chance to take an active part in the whole process including equipment and lighting selection and setup.  Exposure to the use of specialized - and you'll have a chance to use them.  Most importantly, you'll have the opportunity to ask questions.

I have no formal studio and will rent one ONLY if we can all get paid as a result of the finished product.

This means we work wherever we can find space and outdoors.

If this concept and the style of my previous work interests you, contact me and let's see if we can get a team together.

As a final note - My repository was destroyed and I'm in the process of restoring almost 40,000 images, re-conceptualizing my site and moving it from my current host.  This will take time, which I have.

Everything I've checked is a non-inclusive list of what I shoot.
