About Me03-01-2016 addendum:
I regret that I often appear difficult and temperamental in fielding inquiries. I have a certain style and rather obviously, I seek models who best fit in with my artistic goals. Many models ignore the wording of my casting calls and certainly do not read my profile. Please review the below paragraph prior to contacting me for work.
1) I seek cultured, intelligent, emotional, and personality driven people. The hair & make-up, and closet full of outfits mentality is the opposite of what I'm looking for. If I had to use one word to describe what I want in a model it would be "natural." I don't want to photograph a body, I want, as best as I can, to capture the human spirit that inhabits it.
2) When I look at a model's portfolio, or her website, and I see few, or no photographer credits alarms go off in my head. It points to the possibility that she doesn't honor the collaborative spirit of this genre of photography.
3) I prefer not to retain highly experienced or touring models for numerous reasons; the main one being that there's an "auto-pilot" feel to what they do in front of a camera. A couple of highly experienced, touring models have, in the past, convinced me otherwise, but chances are I will pass on the opportunity to work with a model with this type of resume.
I'm a writer and an art photographer. Photography is the yang to my writing yin. Writing is tedious, lonely, and once an editor gets involved: frustrating. Photography is fun, socially active, and produces instant results and gratification.
My strength is female figurative portraits--art nudes and artistic erotica. A woman's face and eyes are endless sources of inspiration. The female figure is to me a powerful force of nature--what mountains, rivers, trees, skies, and so forth are to other photographers.
My goal is to merge imagery and writing into book projects. I hope my photography creates the same results as my writing--that each picture tells a story.
I pay all of my models and also provide up to ten photos for their portfolio. In fact, I detest photographers who expect their models to work for free. Art is not an excuse for wage discrimination.
Models please note: I understand, encourage, and I'm responsive to security screening. Your comfort and safety is paramount. However, I do not allow, under any circumstances, escorts in my workspace.
Also, if we've never worked together and you cancel (or worse: no show) with less than 24 hours notice I will not reschedule you.
Attention traveling models: Due to numerous scheduling changes and cancelled shoots by "touring" models, I've made the decision to work exclusively with New York City metropolitan area models. No exceptions.
