I am a photographer who is often working between Denver and Las Vegas. My best work is when I can bring creative solutions to visual problems while working with like-minded people. On occasion I may work for free (a.k.a. TFP) but also have a ton of gear and expenses to maintain along with a packed schedule, so it just kind of depends on if there is some artistic synergy between us or not.
My imagination. I really cannot think of a better job in the world than coming up with various concepts, lighting techniques, costumes and then get to put it all together for a photo and shoot it. I also get to meet some amazing people who let me hear their stories about where they have been and what they have done. These are really great moments that make this job what it is for me. I feel really privileged to be able to do what I do and make a living at it.
About Me. My photographic idols would be Richard Avedon (the work he did with Twiggy in the late 60's to me is fascinating, there was such a connection between him and her during those shoots.) I would also include Diane Arbus who was pretty famous for her portrait work and was an amazing women with how she approached her subjects.
To describe one of my shoots. The two most important people in the room are the photographer and the subject. There is a connection that I like to bring into the equation...it goes beyond looks, ascetics, and posing - it is about good vibes, going to places in your mind that evoke emotion, posing, and being yourself. If you are not comfortable and authentic then how can you expect your photos to convey the authenticity needed to be believable is the question I measure against.
I learn through experimenting - I will try different lighting when time permits and generally have a good time. I treat all models (yes, including the high maintenance ones ) as I would want to be treated. The models are to be respected at all times on my shoots and a sense and feeling that they are truly in a safe place.
Drop me a line if you have something on your mind.
