Jefry Andres Wright
Photographer Jefry Andres Wright was born in Costa Rica and raised in rural Maryland. Wright's exceptional artistic talent was discovered in his early years when he was invited to participate in the Maryland Institute College of Art's prestigious Young Students Program at the age of 7. The program exposed young Jefry to sculpture, ceramics and painting which became his passion. Years later, Wright went on to study photography at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Wright has been a photographer for the last 6 years and has been working professionally for almost 4 years. Wright has shot editorial photos in several Central and South American countries including Nicaragua, Peru, Ecuador, and his home country of Costa Rica.
Over the years, photographer Jefry Andres Wright has captured some special images--many of which have come from live concert performances. Wright has shot several artists, most notably: Eric Roberson, SI*SE, Los Amigos Invisibles, The Rebirth, Fertile Ground, Stacy Epps, Esthero, The Brand New Heavies, Rakim, Yahzarah, Alice Smith, Thievery Corporation.
Wright's artistic influences include: Annie Leibovitz, Herb Ritz, Gilles Bensimon, Peter Lindberg, Bruce Webber, Gian Paolo Barbieri, Marc Baptiste, Steven Miesel, Avedon and Kwaku Alston.
To date, his greatest professional accomplishments as a photographer include photographing the NAACP 50th Anniversary of Brown v. the Board of Education Gala capturing the images of some the worlds greatest Civil Rights leaders, having one of his commissioned images of vocalist Alice Smith featured in both Rolling Stone Magazine("10 Artists to Watch" --September 2006), and Vibe Magazine(October 2006), and finally being chosen to photograph, best-selling author, educator and philosopher, Dr. Cornel West for his new book: "Hope On a Tightrope: Words and Wisdom"(SmileyBooks/Hay House Publishing, November 2008).
His photography has also included work for the United States Government for the Inter-American Foundation in documenting third world development projects.
