Talouse LaTrec: "Obscenity, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder."
Kurt Vonnegut: "The purpose of art is not to make a living, it is to make your soul grow."
John Updike: "Any activity becomes creative when the doer cares about doing it right, or doing it better."
Where phenomenal technical skill and amazing creativity collide you will find Koop, his attention to detail is exacting and his concepts are brilliant. Koop's work is recognizable for the fact they are a flawless blend of beauty, emotion and art, assembled by an obvious master of the craft.
Koop was born in Los Angeles in 1956. Fascinated with television from birth, he has pursued story telling as a filmmaker and video artist since the early 70's. "I didn't know how to get into the film business when I graduated from high school, so I traveled around the country installing energy saving devices in bowling alleys. I took a Minolta SRT 101 with me and the rest is history. I was a professional photographer who only wanted to shoot my own projects, which I never made any money from. I didn't want to starve, so I put together a portfolio and started shooting advertising. This eventually took me back to moving images as my involvement with TV Commercials dominated my work through out the 80's and 90's." Koop has been making documentary films for the last twelve years. "I was looking for the truth in filmmaking and instead found out exactly how manipulative it really is. People say 'do the right thing.' I think actions speak louder than words." Koop is currently working on a documentary about the spiritual aspects of Navajo cooking called "Beans of the Gods." The film is being produced by his company, Koop Films, Inc.
