I'm Nick--a writer and media artist. I teach writing at Santa Clara University. My background is as varied as my practice and aesthetic: I attended New York University for a degree in film, have an MFA in creative writing, have written textbooks, published fiction, made short films and a music video, and co-directed a theater company in the Bay Area called the Quixotic Players. I love to create stuff.

Primarily, I am a storyteller and mixed media, interdisciplinary artist who works with photography. I have photographed for musicians, books, a literary magazine, theater, and designed publicity. I am here at MM to seek models for a new project—a visual novel that includes both text and photography about a man who can observe the world, but not interact with it.

I am seeking models who are open-minded, flexible, adventurous, and want to participate in something both new, experimental and “unfolding,” rather than entirely preplanned—a deep visual and lyrical exploration of what it means to be the observed and the observer. The French filmmaker Catherine Breillet once complained about professional artists, saying that many of them tried too hard to control their images. I am looking for artists who are willing to collaborate with me and discover visual meaning and beauty inside the context of a narrative. I want us to challenge each other, to direct each other, to act and react.

I work with a deep respect for the art of actors, models, photographers and writers. I believe first in clear communication and trust.
