Will you shoot me for free ? Why won't you shoot me for free?
98% of the time I use the top agencies to cast my personal projects, even then I'm very selective in casting talent that fits my specific project. I'm not one of the many photographers that shoots any girl that will get naked in front of the camera. I could care less about taking images of girls running around with their tits out. I could care less how famous a person is. You don't have to be with a top agency for consideration, however I'm interested in exceptional beauties to photograph. Its nothing personal, this industry is not about how much modeling is your passion, how hard you work to be a model, character or brains( while they are a plus ), its about the way you look. My work is a reflection of personal aesthetic taste. Don't be offended, and if someone else will work with you for free or cheaper, then shoot with them
What do you do to make a living? Do you donate your time and services for free regularly? Would you go to a dental school to get a tooth pulled? Or go to supercuts to get a haircut? I would never. You're not paying for just a hair cut or a photograph. What you're paying for is that artists vision, taste and skill. As a working photographer I'm not going to spend my time taking pictures that I will never use. Its one thing to collaborate with novice artists when you're starting out as you both can help each other out while learning together. However when you want serious images, you get what you pay for (concept development, research, production, post-production) ($1000's++ in Cameras, lights and gear )
Did you know::: PRO PHOTOGRAPHERS spend:
2+ hours of prepping (emails, scouting, creative development, research ect.)
1-5 hours shooting
5+ hours of everything else (retouching, driving, posting, ordering, packaging ect )
They invest in thousands of dollars in equipment, software, and props and spend countless hours learning how to produce beautiful images.
They don't get paid vacations or sick days. they don't get bonuses for outstanding performance or for holidays. They don't have insurance plans or any benefits and 35% of their profit goes to taxes. Understand that they are business owners and they have a love for photography but that love won't pay bills.
