New and aspiring models please don't hesitate to contact me for guidance.  While I am located in Texas, I travel all over the country, so I can assist newbies from all states.  smile

Shelby Ford the Model

First and foremost, thanks for visiting!  I have been blessed with the pleasure of having a diverse, accomplished career as a professional model, an occupation that has persisted for over a decade.  As a model, I have experience in everything from runway to glamour, fine art to high fashion.  Photographers that I have collaborated with can tell you that I not only bring my years of experience to the shoot, but I also put forth a considerable amount of effort to make sure that you walk away with the content you desired, and also a fresh outlook on photography as a whole.  If you have a project in mind, drop me a note explaining how I might help you achieve your goals.

Shelby Ford the Author

I'm currently in the final stages of my book:  Getting the Most Out of Your Shoot:€“ A Model's Perspective.  This book is without a doubt written for photographers, however new and aspiring models can benefit from it as well.  Some of the topics I address in this book are:  communication before, during and after your shoot, TFP vs paid,“deciphering a model's rates, how to avoid no-shows, model no-no's, and I've even touched on the subject of personal relationships between a photographer and  model.  There is an entire chapter in this book devoted to female photographers and what types of advantages they can utilize with their feminine perspective, but also the challenges they face photographing another woman.  This book is intended to get its readers to consider their ultimate photography goals, and then how to get and keep the talent necessary to achieve them.

Shelby Ford the Photographer

Spending that amount of time modeling has sparked my interest in switching to the other side of the lens.  I have learned so much about photography from some of the most talented and respected in the industry, it seems almost foolish not to see what my creative lens can capture.  Keep an eye out for a new photography profile once I get some material.  It is a long term goal of mine to become a photographer, and while my focus right now is still Shelby Ford the model, add me as a friend and you'll be the first to know when I make the switch!

Shelby Ford the Mentor

Over the years I have developed and maintained numerous business relationships, which I have come to discover can be beneficial to all participants in the creative process: photographer, model, make-up artist, post-production, etc.  Upon this realization, I decided to create a weekly article called "The Industry Edge" designed to educate and entertain the talent on both sides of the lens.   After all, in today's Facebook, Twitter, Model Mayhem society, owning a camera qualifies one to call themselves a photographer, and there is of course no shortage of self proclaimed models.  Find out what you need to know to distinguish the professionals from the amateurs, and of course, be respected as a professional yourself.

My website is currently being revamped, so in the meantime, here is a list of some of the services I have offered in the past:

Model mentorship  So you have decided to become a model.  Now what?  Learn how to avoid the scams that take your money in exchange for empty promises, establish yourself in the industry, and above all, stay safe while taking the necessary steps to advance your modeling career.

Photographer and model portfolio review, critique, and development  What to include, how to display it, and what the people that matter need to see.

Website assistance  Everything from site design to content, I have built websites for top name photographers and offered consultation as to what content is relevant, necessary, and easy to use for your potential clients in a Web 2.0 world, all within your budget.

Consultation services  Having a professional do the legwork for you really does allow you to focus on what you are trying to achieve creatively.  A shoot consultant is somewhat similar to hiring a wedding planner: they take care of the details while you devote your attention to what's important.

Location services  Have a great idea; just need the perfect place to shoot it?  I have a vast list of shoot-ready locations across the US (and internationally), ranging from multi-million dollar estates to outdoor secluded hidden treasures.€  Don't pass up an opportunity for a great shoot because you think you can't afford the location. Let me show you how to make it happen.

Model Instruction/Assistance  Whether you have discovered the next Tyra and think she just needs a little help discovering her true modeling capabilities during the shoot, or are seeking a female assistant to make all parties more comfortable during a first time nude shoot, having another model present can instantly provide you with the type of images you are trying to achieve on day one, hour one.  Instead of spending two or three hours rapport building, have a true professional put your new face at ease and provide valuable insight during your shoot.  Photoshop is a great tool, but it wasn't designed for removing hair ties off of a model's wrist.  smile

One-on-one mentorship for photographers  We've all heard it at least a million times: take your business to the next level.  What IS the next level for your photography business?  Have you just started discovering your own unique creative lens?  Are you ready to take your photography from hobby to money making empire?  Is it simply your goal to be published and get recognition in the photo industry?  Is your wife pulling the financial plug on your photography quests until you can start pulling an income from an otherwise money-draining obsession?  Let me help you define those short term and long term goals, and then set you on a personalized path towards success.

There are numerous resources out there for photographers, from books to web forums designed to help you achieve your desired fruition, many of which I suggest on my website.  If you are looking for personalized guidance, then you've come to the right place.

A few testimonials, more on the website:

"Shelby Ford is uniquely talented at assisting both photographer and model in bringing artistic concepts to life. Leveraging her years of modeling experience, Shelby can transform a photo shoot by providing models with clear and concise coaching and support, wardrobe consultation, and posing suggestions.  She understands the photographic process from both sides of the lens and innately knows how to best help a model sell her look, while helping maintain a warm and nurturing environment.  Shelby truly excels at sharing her experience with other models and her communication style and attitude makes working with her fun and inspiring."

Michael P Toothman, Principal Photographer for Visible Metaphor

"As the owner of Vegas Vision Studios I work with a lot of different event and workshop planners every year some good, some not so good. On the several occasions that I have worked with Shelby arranging the hosting of a workshop in my studio the experience has always been top shelf and professional. She cares greatly about the experience that the workshop attendee has and goes out of her way to see to it that all the small details as well as the big details have been taken care of."€
