TRAVEL:
CURRENTLY IN SALT LAKE CITY
2012 - Asia/Europe
I will be back and forth to the US for mostly weddings and projects during 2012.
Hello Mayhemnites, THANKS first of all to all those that have come by and left comments and the new friends' requests. Its always great talking to and meeting new people.
Hello ladies and gentlemen, I am Leighton DaCosta, a Photographer, currently in Salt Lake City, Utah. I have been involved with photography since the mid-ninety's. I am grateful to have been able to enjoy my passion of fashion and editorial work for almost a decade. I will never claim to be the best, though I strive to be, because I am always learning.
I stress style and quality. In the end, do you like the style, and is it a good image that will either get you looked, booked, signed, or sold.
A little more about my overall background. I have a Bachelors in Business Administration with a focus in Technology Management (cum laude), over 12 years serving in the Navy. More than just a photographer, I fly planes, as well teach and consult both small and large business how to streamline their operation.
All that to say is this. For me, photography is not a hobby, it is a business. Do I do TFs? Of course, but do I do free shoots? NO! Hair, Makeup, Wardrobe, Studio Time, Direction, Photography time, Model time, all have a "cost" associated with them. I have had models "no show" for collaborations that companies pay thousands of dollars for. On the other hand, I have had photographers do the same. Many parties are guilty. I believe in professionalism first, all else second.
This article from NewModels.com says a lot on why YOU as a model should look to invest what you can in your portfolio.

You will get out of it what you put into it. Also have a focus of what you want to do. If you are trying to get signed by a top house, remember that some of the BEST photos on MM, which are truly world class, may not be the ones that get you signed, but they may be the ones that get you paid. Understand the difference.
I am always available for help. Would love to meet Clients, Colleagues, and friends.
