Voyeur Photography, Inc. is FOUR YEARS OLD. I started out ALONE, inspired by the love of my heart at the time. I was lugging around a little camera WISHING my stuff turned out like the people in the MAGAZINES. ALL I wanted was to hear that someone "liked" what I did.
I am honored to say I have worked with some AMAZING CLIENTS, from BILLIONAIRES, to PRINCES' of COUNTRIES, to ENTERTAINERS, MODELS, ACTORS, SINGERS, CHILDREN, PORN STARS and even the HOMELESS. And I have treated them ALL the same... because they MATTER to me. And the EXPERIENCE matters to me.
It's a privilege to be able to create ART. I stopped trying to figure out WHY I love it so much... and it's been a FIGHT not to lose the PASSION for it, in all the STICKY RED TAPE and POLITICS. Oddly, instead of EMBRACING and ENCOURAGING me, other photographers, whom I was actually a huge fan of, EARLY ON, tried to USE ME and DISCREDIT ME. Or even TAKE MY CREDIT from me... Strange huh?
But I didn't let that make me JADED. I have RETURNED to the PURITY of being able to CAPTURE a MOMENT in time... and share it with the WORLD.
For ME, that's enough.
I'm not in a battle with myself anymore, therefore I don't EVER feel the NEED to COMPETE with anyone else. I think, as I've said the four years I've been shooting, that EACH ARTIST has his OWN VISUAL INTERPRETATION of what he SEES and FEELS. WE are ALL UNIQUELY POWERFUL and EXPRESSIVE. Some STAND OUT MORE than others, and I really am LEARNING, it's those who are FEARLESS in their approach. NOT ARROGANT, just AWARE of your VOICE.
FOUR YEARS and I believe I have FOUND MY VOICE. My assistant just told me the other day, he said, "I just have so much RESPECT for you because I've never seen ANYONE try so LITTLE and have such a DYNAMIC AFFECT on people and such an AMAZING OUTCOME. You walk in, pick up the camera, look around, shoot... but it comes out like you spend HOURS PLANNING and ORGANIZING."
I told him, it's because I LOVE IT and I just don't CARE that much to LOSE my MIND and LOSE THE PLEASURE in it.
I think if I start to COVET other people's gifts, then I lose the PURITY of my own TALENTS. If I start to FOLLOW RULES and GUIDELINES, then I will be just ANOTHER in the POOL of DROWNING ARTIST. If I start to WORK then the PASSION goes away. If my GOAL is to PLEASE an AGENCY, with the "STANDARD" shot, then what about the BILLIONAIRE who was looking for the STAND OUT ARTIST to express his ECCENTRIC WAYS?
I like where I am... I LOVE what I see. I like that I've taken my TIME and not WORN MYSELF THIN. I LOVE that I don't take myself or my "work" too seriously. But then when it's TIME to DELIVER, I'm GLAD that I don't come up SHORT.
I think the best thing about THIS, is that I am a TRUE FAN of PHOTOGRAPHY and PHOTOGRAPHERS alike. I LOVE when ANY photographer gets that MAGIC SHOT... or when a MODEL or SUBJECT helps KNOCK ONE OUT OF THE PARK with the EMOTION they EVOKE.
SO... As I CONTINUE, I will just keep on shooting LIFE as I see it and maybe continue to be RESPECTED and LOVED for what I do.
ENCOURAGEMENT for those just starting, or who get AFRAID of this BIG MONSTROUS BUSINESS:
SHOOT! Just KEEP SHOOTING until you find you OWN DISTINCTIVE VOICE! NEVER let you image be MISTAKEN for SOMEONE ELSE'S. If you think it takes MONEY or TRAINING... you're HALF RIGHT. I've NEVER been TRAINED or SCHOOLED in ANY LEVEL of PHOTOGRAPHY... I love LOVE a PRETTY PICTURE. But a great MENTOR once told me, INVEST in the BEST EQUIPMENT you can to get the BEST SHOT!
