About my creative process...
Prior to any shoot, even any serious planning, I meet with my model. In a time where so much is done online, it's important to me to be real. Anyone can tell you whatever they want online. But having an opportunity to look someone in the eye, shake their hand, have a conversation... That's worth a small investment in time. If that's not to you, then let me save you some time and you can stop reading here...
I love to collaborate with my models to bring ideas to life. Let's talk about things and find a project that we're both excited about!
I provide concept sketches and/or complete details to my model prior to the scheduling of a shoot. Having things approved up front has worked well at eliminating issues and helps set the pace of the shoot. I want everyone to be comfortable and respected on set. There should never be surprises.
If a chaperone is required by a model, they are welcome. If I need an assistant, or a makeup artist, etc., models are told in advance as to who would be present and why. The important thing here is that everyone has a specific job to do, and that each person needs to respect that. Meddling or jealous spouses and friends are not welcome. This is a problem waiting to happen and is a distraction to everyone involved, leading to poor images. Our time is too valuable to waste... Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
Model releases are used on every shoot. No exceptions. If you are in doubt about a project or possible use, do not pursue it. Don't let anyone talk you into a project that you are not 100% comfortable with. I credit the people involved, unless specifically directed otherwise. Some images are not appropriate for facebook or other social media outlets for example. In those cases I respect the wishes of the model and will not credit/tag you in the image. Just let me know in advance, and I will happily oblige.
Once a shoot has taken place, I edit down the images to a manageable amount and supply my model with screen resolution water marked proof images so they can review what we shot. It's important that we all grow as creative people, so while the vast majority of captures never move beyond this stage, and only the best images are finalized, I still see the value in sharing what we did.
Once we've had a time to review the work, selections are made, and edits are completed.
A tremendous amount of time goes into editing images. If a specific crop is required (ex: used as an avatar) I'd be happy to supply that. Just ask first! It's not acceptable in any situation to take someone's work and alter it. This includes cropping, adding filters, running it through other programs, and all the other things I can't even image as I write this. Just talk to me first... We'll figure something out.
Every model I have been honored to work with has agreed to be a reference for me, so please take the time to background check me should you required it. I encourage you to... I work very hard to earn and maintain a stellar reputation.
Thank you for taking some time to look at my portfolio!
