When I was 14, I stole my mother’s camera and signed up for a photo course at my high school. By the time I was 19, I was heavily immersed in LA’s burgeoning underground music scene, playing shows, going to shows, and surrounding myself with some of LA’s most interesting and creative young artists and musicians. I found myself constantly carrying around my camera, trying to capture as much of this explosive movement as possible, documenting the eccentric fashions and peculiar personalities with the click of a button.
What began as a hobby, soon became a way of life, and I found myself taking photographs outside of the music realm that I had been so actively involved in. I began to develop an interest in fashion, and by the summer of 2007, I decided to actively pursue photography as a career. I packed up my bag and moved to San Francisco, where I enrolled at the Academy of Art. It was there that I truly delved into my identity as a photographer. Up until that point, I had shot using mostly old, high-speed , black and white film, preferring the natural grittiness it produced. As I began to learn different techniques, my own style began to change. I starting shooting in color, creating soft, romantic images that still kept true to my raw aesthetic. Once I realized that my own personal style could be created using more than one technique, it seemed as if a whole new world had opened up to me, and it really had. I try to shoot at least 3 times a week, and I spend the rest of my time conceptualizing or editing.
I still document life around me. My friends are still some of my favorite models, candid or not, however, my real love centers around conceptualizing, creating and capturing unique and compelling fashion photographs.
Please feel free to contact me for rates. I am very selective with TFP/TFCD, but if you have an idea that you think would interest me send me a note.
